  • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Receives promotion

The Marlins recalled Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Pereda will provide the Marlins with a third catcher behind Nick Fortes and Ali Sanchez for the final month of the season. • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Collects first big-league hits

Pereda went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Reds. Called up Wednesday when Nick Fortes (quad) landed on the IL, Pereda made his first start behind the plate and banged out his first career big-league hits and RBI. The 28-year-old minor-league journeyman will split work with Ali Sanchez while Fortes is sidelined, and Pereda's .310/.418/.458 slash line for Triple-A Jacksonville this season at least offers some hope that he might be able to contribute at the plate.

  • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Sent to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Pereda to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. The 28-year-old was called up by the Marlins but will return to Triple-A now that Christian Bethancourt is back from the bereavement list. Pereda is 0-for-5 in his five big-league games this season but has an .804 OPS in 83 plate appearances for Jacksonville.

  • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Recalled to majors

The Marlins recalled Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Pereda has slashed .275/.398/.406 across 83 plate appearances in the minors this season, and he will now come up from Triple-A to give the Marlins additional depth behind the plate while Christian Bethancourt (bereavement) is out. Pereda went 0-for-5 in three games during his first stint in the majors in April.

  • Marlins' Jhonny Pereda: Added to roster

The Marlins selected Pereda's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Pereda will back up Nick Fortes at catcher while Christian Bethancourt (illness) is out. The 27-year-old has gone 9-for-26 at the plate for Jacksonville this season and would be making his major-league debut if/when he gets into a game.

  • Reds' Jhonny Pereda: Invited to Reds camp

Pereda signed a minor-league deal with the Reds on Tuesday and received an invitation to spring training. The 26-year-old backstop spent all of 2022 in the Giants organization at the Triple-A level, where he slashed .272/.371/.379 over 246 plate appearances -- all significant improvements from his 2021 campaign. If he can impress in spring training, Pereda will have an outside chance at making the 26-man roster as a backup catcher, but he would have to beat out Luke Maile and Chuckie Robinson for that to happen.
