  • Pirates' Yerry Rodriguez: Minor-league deal with Pittsburgh

The Pirates signed Rodriguez to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Rodriguez, 27, appeared in 30 games at the major-league level from 2022-24 posting an 8.17 ERA and 33:19 K:BB over 36.1 innings. The righty reliever boasts a 28.3 percent strikeout rate during his time at the Triple-A level, so he has some bat-missing ability if he can just throw enough strikes.

  • Blue Jays' Yerry Rodriguez: DFA'd by Jays

The Blue Jays designated Rodriguez (undisclosed) for assignment Thursday. Rodriguez has been held out of action at Triple-A Buffalo since August due to an unspecified injury, and it remains unknown when he'll be cleared to return to games. While he waits to return, his spot on Toronto's 40-man roster will be given to Brett de Geus, who was claimed off waivers from Miami on Thursday.

  • Blue Jays' Yerry Rodriguez: Injured at Triple-A

Triple-A Buffalo placed Rodriguez on its 7-day injured list Friday with an unspecified injury. The Blue Jays optioned Rodriguez to Buffalo on Aug. 11, but he didn't make any appearances for the Triple-A club before being deactivated. If his injury proves to be a season-ending concern, the Blue Jays could rescind Rodriguez's option to Triple-A and place him on the major-league 60-day IL at some point to open up an extra spot on the 40-man roster.

The Blue Jays optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. • Rangers' Yerry Rodriguez: Throws two scoreless

Rodriguez allowed one hit and two walks (one intentional) while striking out two over two scoreless innings in Sunday's 9-5 loss to the Cubs. Rodriguez breezed through the seventh inning before working out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam. The right-hander has legitimate heat with a fastball that averaged 97.5 mph and topped out at 98.5. Rodriguez, who had command issues (4.0 BB/9) in 13 games for the Rangers in 2023, showed improvement in that area during spring training. The 26-year-old could be a weapon in the bullpen if he can locate his pitches with consistency.

The 23-year-old righty is supposedly healthy and will likely open the 2021 season at High-A or Double-A.
