Scribner was on the minor-league disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation at the time of this transaction. The right-hander had only appeared in one big-league game in 2018 and held a 5.11 ERA over 44 innings for Reno. He will look to latch on with another organization in the coming weeks as a veteran that has the ability to serve in the rotation or bullpen.

Scribner (0-1) took the loss Saturday agains the Nationals, allowing two runs on four hits and six walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out four.
It was a tough task facing Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals in his first start for the Diamondbacks, but Scribner did little to help himself in this one, tossing just 59 of his 98 pitches for strikes while recording just 11 outs before getting the hook. He loaded the bases up in the third and fourth inning but was able to limit the damage to two runs. Still, two runs was all the Nationals needed with Strasburg on the bump, saddling Scribner with the loss. He'll likely head back to Triple-A Reno while the Diamondbacks work with a four-man rotation for the time being thanks to a midweek off day, but he could rejoin the rotation for a road start against the Brewers later in the month.

Scribner is on the "taxi squad" for Friday's game after being recalled from Triple-A Reno in advance of his 2018 debut. Over five starts with the Aces, he's posted a 5.68 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with a 24:11 K:BB in 25.1 innings. It remains to be seen whether Scribner will head back down to Reno following Saturday's start or if there's potential for a second outing, but in all likelihood, he will probably be optioned back to Reno with the Diamondbacks receiving a well-placed off day next Thursday.

Scribner is a candidate to receive a promotion from Triple-A Reno to start Saturday for the Diamondbacks against the Nationals, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
Earlier this week, Arizona assistant general manager Jared Porter mentioned Scribner, Taylor Clarke, Jake Buchanan and Albert Suarez as the top candidates to assume the rotation spot vacated by Robbie Ray (oblique), who will miss his second straight turn Saturday. Since Porter's announcement, Buchanan and Suarez have both made appearances with Reno, likely taking a promotion for either off the table. While both Scribner (5.68 ERA, 1.31 WHIP in 25.1 innings) and Clarke (5.91 ERA, 1.63 WHIP in 35 innings) have been similarly underwhelming at Reno, Clarke isn't a member of the 40-man roster, seemingly conferring Scribner the edge for a potential callup. Expect Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo to name a new fifth starter at some point Friday.

He was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday to make room for Akeel Morris. Scribner was claimed by Arizona and optioned to Triple-A Reno. The 26-year-old reached the majors for the first time last season, tossing 23.2 innings with a 4.18 ERA and a 7.00 FIP. In a corresponding move, Jeremy Hazelbaker was designated for assignment.

Scribner tossed only 2.2 innings during an abbreviated start Aug. 30 and the light workload made manager Mike Scioscia comfortable enough with calling upon the right-hander to record an out in relief two days later with the knowledge that Richards was ready to rejoin the rotation in his stead. Since Richards had been sidelined since the first week of April and made just one rehab start in the minors, it's expected that he'll face a restricted pitch count in Tuesday's outing, so Scribner could be one of the multiple relievers called upon to piggyback Richards during the contest.

Scribner lasted just 2.2 innings after giving up two runs on four hits to the Athletics on Tuesday. He walked one and struck out two in an eventual 8-2 victory.
Scribner got the early hook after loading the bases in the top of third inning while trying to protect a 5-2 lead. He allowed two homers for the second consecutive start, bringing his season total up to seven in just 20.2 innings. The soft-tossing righty should get another shot at the Athletics next Monday, but his poor combination of being homer-prone (3.0 HR/9) while owning a pedestrian walk rate (3.5 BB/9) makes Scribner a risky play.

JC Ramirez (forearm) is on the DL and without a timetable to return, so Scribner will slot into that spot in the rotation, at least for one turn. Scribner gave up five runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision Friday against Oakland.
Scribner was wild in his first major-league start, but he also wasn't helped by his defense, as a Yunel Escobar throwing error set up a three-run second inning. The rookie flashed some nasty stuff at times, inducing 12 swinging strikeouts in just 74 pitches. The results weren't pretty but should be intriguing enough for the Angels to give him another look.

Scribner will enter the Angels' starting rotation in place of Jesse Chavez, who was recently shifted to the bullpen after struggling to a 5.24 ERA through 21 starts. The 26-year-old has only appeared out of the bullpen in the majors, but he's compiled a 4.39 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 17 starts (92.1 innings) for Triple-A Salt Lake this season. It's unclear if he'll make more than one start at this point; that could depend on how he pitches Friday.
