  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting breather Tuesday

Moreno isn't in Arizona's lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.

Moreno went 2-for-3 during his first start back from the injured list Monday, and he'll take a seat Tuesday as the D-backs ease him back into regular playing time. While he rests, Jose Herrera will catch for Jordan Montgomery and bat ninth.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Makes first start since return

Moreno started at catcher and went 2-for-3 in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.

Moreno, who was activated off the 10-day injured list Sunday, made his first start since rejoining the team -- he was used as a pinch hitter Sunday but did not play defensively. He missed nearly all of August and the first half of September with an adductor strain. The Diamondbacks optioned rookie backstop Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno on Monday, signaling that Moreno is ready to take on near-everyday duty.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returns from IL

The Diamondbacks reinstated Moreno (adductor) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Moreno won't enter the lineup Sunday against the Brewers in his return to the 28-man active roster, but the 24-year-old will be available off the bench after completing his recovery from the left adductor strain that had kept him on the shelf for nearly five weeks. Though he didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, Moreno was able to prove his health by playing in simulated games at the Diamondbacks' spring facility in Arizona in recent days. He could be eased back into the fold with a lighter catching load initially, but the expectation is that Moreno will be ready to serve as the club's No. 1 backstop by the time the postseason gets underway.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Active in camp game

Moreno (adductor) caught five innings of a game at the Diamondbacks' camp Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Moreno took three at-bats and ran the bases during the game. The Diamondbacks will monitor the catcher's recovery Sunday before making any decisions, but Moreno could be activated in time for Monday's series opener in Colorado.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Will catch Saturday in Arizona

Moreno (adductor) will catch five innings at the Diamondbacks' camp facility at Salt River Fields on Saturday, Arizona Sports reports.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Friday the team will assess how Moreno responds following the activity. The manager said it's possible Moreno could return for the series in Colorado next week that begins Monday.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Ramps up activity

Moreno (adductor) has begun running at 80 percent and is scheduled to catch a bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Moreno is ramping up toward a potential mid-month return. The catcher has been sidelined since Aug. 5 when he suffered a strained left adductor while running out a single. Arizona is getting by with a combination of Adrian Del Castillo and Jose Herrera behind the dish.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Taking swings

Moreno (adductor) hit in a batting cage Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Tuesday marks the first time Moreno has swung a bat since he landed on the injured list Aug. 6 with a left adductor strain. The 24-year-old backstop still isn't expected to return to the big-league lineup until well into September, but seeing him resume activity is certainly a positive sign.
