Rangers' Gerardo Carrillo: Gets Tommy John surgery
The Rangers have announced that Carrillo underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Friday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
The 25-year-old Carrillo has yet to make his MLB debut and was attending camp as a non-roster invitee after joining Texas on a minor-league contract in December. After requiring the reconstructive elbow procedure, Carrillo will miss the entire 2024 season, and his availability for the start of the 2025 campaign could be affected, too.

Rangers' Gerardo Carrillo: Nets NRI from Rangers
Carrillo signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Carrillo got into two games at Double-A Harrisburg in the Nationals organization in 2023 but spent most of his season in the Mexican League. The 25-year-old was part of the Nationals' return from the Dodgers in the Trea Turner/Max Scherzer trade but has yet to advance past the Double-A level.

Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Assigned to Rochester
Carrillo cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Carrillo was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Tuesday and will now likely begin the 2023 campaign as a member of Rochester. The pitcher spent the 2022 campaign with High-A Wilmington and Double-A Harrisburg, surrendering 17 runs over 20.1 innings while striking out 27 batters in 19 appearances combined with the two clubs.

Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Loses 40-man spot
Carrillo was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Tuesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Carrillo was acquired from the Dodgers in the trade that sent Trea Turner and Max Scherzer the other way back in July of 2021. He struggled to a 5.59 ERA in eight Double-A starts that season before missing the majority of 2022 due to a shoulder issue. When he did pitch, he pitched almost exclusively in relief, struggling to a 6.94 ERA in 23.1 innings split across three levels.

Double-A Harrisburg reinstated Carrillo (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Thursday.
Carrillo made two relief appearances for Harrisburg over the weekend, giving up four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three across one inning out of the bullpen. The right-hander had previously resided on Harrisburg's IL since late April due to a sore shoulder.

Carrillo was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
Carrillo spent the entire 2021 campaign at the Double-A level and posted a 4.76 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 96.1 innings across 23 appearances (22 starts). The right-hander should advance in the minors this year but will need to display better results if he hopes to make his major-league debut.
