Yankees' Duke Ellis: Absent from ALCS roster
Ellis is not on the Yankees' roster for the ALCS against the Guardians.
Ellis made one pinch-running appearance in the ALDS, but the Yankees have found a better use for his roster spot during the ALCS. Marcus Stroman has been added as a long reliever.

Yankees' Duke Ellis: Summoned for ALDS
Ellis is included on the Yankees' roster for the American League Division Series versus the Royals.
Ellis played in just 11 games between the White Sox and Yankees in the regular season and logged just five plate appearances. However, he came in handy as a base stealer, notching five thefts in as many attempts. Ellis ended the campaign in the minors and will likely be used almost exclusively as a pinch runner during the divisional round.

Yankees' Duke Ellis: Optioned to Triple-A
Ellis was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Cubs.
Ellis was called up last Sunday, securing a hit in his only at-bat while with the team before being sent down. The outfielder's departure from the major-league roster opens a spot for Jon Berti (calf), who's set to return from the 60-day injured list.

Yankees' Duke Ellis: Summoned to big leagues
The Yankees recalled Ellis from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
Rather than summoning top prospect Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A to bolster their outfield in September, the Yankees will instead turn to the 26-year-old Ellis, who has bounced around between four organizations in 2024. The Yankees are presumably still keen on giving Dominguez regular at-bats until the Triple-A season ends, whereas Ellis profiles as a more traditional bench option. Ellis has posted a weak .651 OPS across his various stops in the minors this season, but he's capable of playing center field and represents an ideal late-inning pinch-running option. He has compiled 51 stolen bases between the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2024.

Yankees' Duke Ellis: Claimed by New York
The Yankees claimed Ellis off waivers from the Mariners on Monday.
Since mid-June, Ellis has bounced around from the White Sox to the Mets to the Mariners and now to the Yankees. The speedy outfielder has slashed just .235/.315/.336 across his various stops in the minors this season but has stolen 51 bases in 54 attempts. He'll report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Mariners' Duke Ellis: DFA'd by Seattle
The Mariners designated Ellis for assignment Friday.
The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Terrin Vavra, who was claimed off waivers. Ellis was a waiver claim himself last month and the speedy outfielder could be on the move again.

Mariners' Duke Ellis: Claimed by Seattle
The Mariners claimed Ellis off waivers from the Mets on Thursday.

Mets' Duke Ellis: Pushed off 40-man roster
The Mets designated Ellis for assignment Sunday.
The Mets claimed Ellis off waivers from the White Sox on June 21, but he never made any appearances for the big club during his brief time on the 40-man roster. If Ellis goes unclaimed upon being exposed to waivers once again in the coming days, he'll stay in the organization and should continue to play on a near-everyday basis at Double-A Binghamton.

Mets' Duke Ellis: Claimed by Mets
The Mets claimed Ellis off waivers from the White Sox on Friday and optioned him to Double-A Binghamton, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Ellis got a cup of coffee with the White Sox this season and has slashed just .258/.341/.308 at the Double-A level, which is especially underwhelming when you consider his age (26). He's fast and can play defense, though, which was enough to pique the Mets' interest.

White Sox's Duke Ellis: Removed from 40-man roster
Ellis was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Sunday.
Chuckie Robinson will take Ellis' place on the 40-man roster. Ellis appeared in eight games with the White Sox recently but logged only four at-bats. He's spent most of his time this season with Double-A Birmingham, slashing .258/.341/.308 across 141 plate appearances.

White Sox's Duke Ellis: Sent to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Ellis to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.
During his first stint in the big leagues following his promotion from Double-A Birmingham on June 4, Ellis appeared in eight games and went 0-for-4 with four stolen bases and a run scored. The 26-year-old outfielder will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to outfielder Andrew Benintendi (Achilles), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.

White Sox's Duke Ellis: Demotion coming
Ellis is expected to be optioned to the minors prior to Wednesday's game in Seattle, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
He'll clear out to make room on the roster for the return of outfielder Andrew Benintendi (Achilles) from the 10-day injured list. Ellis spent one week with the big club and was used primarily as a pinch runner, stealing four bases while going 0-for-4 at the plate.

White Sox's Duke Ellis: Being used as pinch runner
Ellis entered Wednesday's game against the Cubs as a pinch runner and recorded a stolen base.
Ellis had his contract selected and made his big-league debut Tuesday, when he also appeared as a pinch runner and stole a base. Prior to being recalled, he swiped 34 bases across 39 games with Double-A Birmingham while maintaining a 101 wRC+. It's unlikely that Ellis will draw enough consistent playing time to make an impact in most fantasy formats, though his speed will be an asset if he finds a place in the starting nine.

White Sox's Duke Ellis: Contract selected
The White Sox selected Ellis' contract from Double-A Birmingham on Tuesday.
Ellis receives a promotion after slashing .258/.341/.308 with 34 stolen bases at Birmingham. The 26-year-old is getting a look amid a rash of injuries in the White Sox' outfield, although he would still figure to be down in the pecking order for playing time.

White Sox's Duke Ellis: Will be called up Tuesday
The White Sox are expected to select Ellis' contract from Double-A Birmingham ahead of Tuesday's game against the Cubs, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
The 26-year-old Ellis has slashed just .258/.341/.308 at Birmingham in 2024 and owns a career .665 OPS in four minor-league seasons. However, he's lauded for his speed and defense and has gone 34-for-35 on stolen base attempts this season. Even on the talent-deficient White Sox, Ellis seems unlikely to see significant playing time and may see most of his work as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch-runner.
