Estrada has looked nearly unhittable in exhibition action while racking up a 14.9 K/9. The walks are a bit concerning, though the flamethrowing reliever is coming off a 2025 regular season during which he posted a career-best 8.9 percent walk rate. Estrada also recorded a career-high 30 holds last year and is slated to again be a key high-leverage arm for San Diego in 2026.

• Padres' Jeremiah Estrada: Snags third save

  Estrada struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Phillies. Estrada was one of four San Diego relievers to have pitched three of the previous four days, but he was apparently deemed good to go for a save chance Saturday. Usual closer Robert Suarez had also seen a similar workload and was held back from pitching in this contest. Estrada is now second on the team with three saves, though he's no threat to Suarez's closer role, as he's instead functioned as a setup man throughout the year. Overall, Estrada has a 2.93 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 60:16 K:BB while adding 21 holds and three blown saves across 43 innings.

• Padres' Jeremiah Estrada: Secures second save

  Estrada pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Giants. Top relievers Robert Suarez, Jason Adam and Adrian Morejon had all pitched the previous two days, allowing Estrada a chance to convert his second save of the season. He's earned both of his saves a week apart while also functioning as a setup man when the Padres' bullpen is fresher. Estrada is at a 2.36 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 40:9 K:BB across 26.2 innings this season, and he's added 11 holds. While he doesn't have much of a chance at steady save opportunities, his high strikeout rate makes him a viable option in some fantasy formats.

Estrada handled the seventh inning after starter Kyle Hart gave San Diego six scoreless frames. The righty reliever walked the first batter he faced but subsequently induced a double-play grounder before ending the frame with a strikeout. Estrada has had an excellent start to the campaign, allowing just one run through 8.1 innings while posting a 10:3 K:BB.

• Padres' Jeremiah Estrada: Blows save chance Thursday

  Estrada (3-1) blew a save but was credited with the win in Thursday's victory versus the Brewers. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters over one inning. Primary closer Robert Suarez had pitched on back-to-back days, so San Diego turned to Estrada with a two-run lead in the ninth inning, though the latter had taken the mound on consecutive days as well. Estrada couldn't close things out, giving up a pair of runs on a walk, a single, a wild pitch and a double. To his credit, the right-hander kept the game tied by striking out the final two batters he faced, and he ended up in the win column when Jake Cronenworth smacked a walk-off home run in the bottom of the frame. Though Estrada continues to rack up punchouts -- of his past 13 outs, 12 have come via strikeout -- he's been struggling of late, giving up eight runs on 10 hits and three walks over that span of five outings.

When Estrada entered in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Padres were only one run down after posting a four-run top of the frame. However, the reliever negated the comeback bid by allowing four runs of his own as New York racked up five hits -- including a homer and a double -- against him. Estrada began his tenure with San Diego in eye-opening fashion, allowing just two earned runs over his first 21 innings while recording a 35:7 K:BB. However, he's come back to earth in his past two outings, giving up five runs over 1.1 frames.

  Estrada (illness) struck out two and gave up an earned run on one hit and one walk over one inning out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Athletics. Estrada relayed prior to Wednesday's game that he had been dealing with an illness, but it didn't deter the Padres from turning to him in the eighth inning while they faced a 3-2 deficit. Though Estrada let in a run to give the Athletics a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, Donovan Solano tied the game with a two-run home run later in the frame before Jackson Merrill hit a walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth. Estrada hasn't been used since Wednesday, but with his bout with the illness now a few more days in the rear-view mirror, he should be available for Sunday's series finale against the Mets.

Estrada and fellow reliever Brendon Little were both added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster as replacement players earlier this week, when starters Justin Steele and Adrian Sampson were placed on the restricted list for the Cubs' series in Toronto. With both Steele and Sampson now having been formally reinstated, Estrada will lose his spot on major-league roster, but he'll remain on the 40-man roster since Chicago selected his contract. He made his MLB debut in Tuesday's 5-3 loss, striking out two and working around a walk in a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
