Kennedy was recalled from the Phillies' spring training complex Sunday.
He is not in Sunday's lineup against the Nationals, but Kennedy will serve as a capable righty bench bat with Austin Hays (back) banged up. Kennedy, who turns 26 next week, has played sparingly in the majors and slashed .294/.400/.500 with 10 home runs in 300 plate appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Sent to minors
The Phillies optioned Kennedy to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
The 25-year-old was called up by Philadelphia on Sept. 6 but will return to Triple-A with Edmundo Sosa (back) being activated from the injured list Tuesday. Kennedy appeared in seven games during his brief time in the majors and went 2-for-10 with a double, two walks, two RBI and a run scored.

The official transactions log on MLB.com had listed Kennedy as having been outrighted by the Tigers after clearing waivers, but that was erroneous and has since been deleted.
