  • Phillies' Max Lazar: Rejoins big club

The Phillies recalled Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The right-hander was up with the Phillies for a few days in mid-June, when he allowed two runs on three hits with a 4:0 K:BB over four innings. Lazar, who has a 4.19 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 16 relief outings at Lehigh Valley, should fill a low-leverage role out of the bullpen for Philadelphia.

The Phillies optioned Lazar to Triple-A Lehigh Valley following Sunday's 6-2 win over the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Lazar will return to the Triple-A level after he surrendered two runs on three hits while striking out four batters over four innings in three appearances with the Phillies following his call-up Tuesday. Philadelphia is expected to activate left-hander Kyle Backhus (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday to take Lazar's spot in the bullpen.

  • Phillies' Max Lazar: Recalled from Triple-A

The Phillies recalled Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Lazar has given up four earned runs over five innings at Lehigh Valley since the beginning of June, but he'll end up back in the majors following Brad Keller's (forearm) move to the injured list. The 27-year-old righty has yet to appear in a big-league game this season, though he owns a 4.75 ERA in 55 career innings and will likely be limited to middle relief as long as he's with the Phillies.

  • Phillies' Max Lazar: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Phillies reinstated Lazar (oblique) from the 60-day injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. A left oblique strain sent Lazar to the injured list at the start of the regular season, though he was cleared to begin playing in rehab games in late April. The 26-year-old gave up nine runs (four earned) during his time in the minors while striking out 11 batters and walking five over 13.1 innings. He'll stay put at Lehigh Valley now that he's fully healthy, but there's a good chance he'll rejoin the big club at some point to provide a fresh bullpen arm. Zach Pop (calf) was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

Lazar stepped away from Team Israel during the World Baseball Classic in March after feeling discomfort in his oblique, and he proceeded to open the season on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique. The 26-year-old right-hander is expected to function as bullpen depth for the Phillies once healthy.
