Reds' Jared Solomon: Inks MiLB deal with Reds
Solomon signed a minor-league contract with Cincinnati on Monday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Solomon spent the majority of the 2022 campaign with Triple-A Louisville, where he accrued an 8.93 ERA and 1.92 WHIP with a 44:20 K:BB across 41 relief appearances. He also pitched in nine games for the big-league club, allowing 10 runs on eight hits and five walks while fanning nine across 8.1 frames. Solomon will have an opportunity to earn a spot in the bullpen during spring training.

Reds' Jared Solomon: Cast off 40-man

Solomon got hit around quite a bit in the majors last season, recording a 10.80 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 8.1 innings. His numbers didn't get much better with Triple-A Louisville (8.93 ERA, 1.92 WHIP), so it's not much of a surprise to see him removed from the Reds' 40-man roster.

Solomon was called up from Triple-A Louisville to serve as the Reds' 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Solomon was elevated to the big leagues to operate as the 27th man on the active roster for the doubleheader against the Pirates on Thursday. The reliever has produced a 12.27 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 7.1 frames in the majors this season. He'll likely return to Triple-A following Thursday's contests.

Solomon joined the Reds' bullpen Friday and gave up three runs in a relief inning against the Giants on Saturday. Solomon will return to Louisville after being called up Sunday. He appeared in two games while in the big leagues, surrendering five runs on four hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. With the league expected to reduce the maximum number of pitchers a team can carry from 14 to 13 on June 20, Colin Moran was recalled to take Solomon's place on the major-league roster.

Solomon served as the 27th man in Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates, but he was sent back down a day later. The right-hander will now rejoin the major-league bullpen after Lucas Sims (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Solomon allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two in a scoreless inning during his big-league debut Saturday.

The right-hander hasn't yet made his major-league debut but will provide additional bullpen depth during Saturday's twin bill.

Along with Solomon, Cincinnati optioned outfielder Allan Cerda and right-hander James Marinan to Chattanooga in the latest round of roster cuts. Though Solomon looks to be fully healthy again following October 2020 Tommy John surgery, the Reds could monitor his workloads carefully during his initial starts with Chattanooga this season.

Solomon (elbow) is listed among the Reds' available relievers for Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Brewers, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The right-hander looks like he'll be ready to make his first appearance in an official game since 2019, after the 2020 minor-league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic before Solomon underwent Tommy John surgery later that year. Now nearly 17 months removed from having the procedure, Solomon looks like he'll be ready to go for the start of the upcoming minor-league season in early April. While splitting time between the High-A and Low-A level in 2019, Solomon made 26 starts and submitted a 3.98 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 111:61 K:BB in 115.1 innings.

Reds' Jared Solomon: Recovering from Tommy John surgery
Solomon had Tommy John elbow surgery Oct. 30, Reds GM Nick Krall revealed Monday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
The Reds added Solomon to the 40-man roster over the offseason. Should they ever find a shortstop to sign or trade for, they could easily move him off the 40-man to make room, either by designating him for assignment or by putting him on the 60-day IL, depending on when that hypothetical move occurs.
