  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Belts 26th homer

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Atlanta. The 24-year-old spoiled Spencer Schwellenbach's shutout bid in the seventh inning when he drove the first pitch he saw the other way for a 346-foot homer. Vientos has had an up-and-down September, but he's racked up seven hits in the last six games, including a double and two long balls, despite striking out 11 times in 25 plate appearances. He's overall had a successful first extended look at big-league pitching, posting a .270/.328/.523 slash line with 26 home runs and 68 RBI in 107 contests this season, but the Mets may need a little more from him if they're going to hang onto a wild-card spot.

Vientos then capped the game's scoring when he cracked a walk-off, 401-foot, two-run blast in the 10th. The 24-year-old has been a significant source of power this season, as he's now slashing .289/.342/.563 with 24 homers, 62 RBI and 50 runs scored across 368 plate appearances in 91 games. • Mets' Mark Vientos: Homers twice Thursday

Vientos went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three total RBI in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the A's. Batting out of the two-hole for the first time this year, Vientos certainly made a case to stay at the top of the order -- the third baseman launched a two-run homer off Mitch Spence in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Michel Otanez in the fourth. Vientos had cooled off a bit after a hot start to his season. Thursday's performance was his first multi-hit game since July 26 -- he'd gone 10-for-50 (.200) in the following 15 contests heading into Thursday. Still, it's been an impressive campaign overall for Vientos, who's established himself as a regular in the Mets' lineup. He's now slashing .275/.333/.557 through 288 plate appearances with 19 homers, 48 RBI and 38 runs scored.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Out with ankle soreness

Vientos was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners due to left ankle soreness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The ankle issue has apparently been bothering Vientos since late July and cost him a start Aug. 5 against the Cardinals, but he had been part of the lineup in four of the Mets' subsequent five contests. Assuming Vientos isn't dealing with any sort of major setback with the ankle, he should have a good chance at returning to the lineup for Tuesday's series opener versus the Athletics following Monday's team off day.
