Cubs' Eduarniel Nunez: DFA'd again Wednesday
The Cubs designated Nunez for assignment Wednesday.
The transaction frees up space on the 40-man roster for right-hander Vince Velasquez, who was promoted from Triple-A Iowa. Nunez has already been in three organizations since mid-May and could make it a fourth if another club claims him off waivers or trades for him.

Cubs' Eduarniel Nunez: Claimed off waivers by Cubs
The Cubs claimed Nunez off waivers from the Orioles on Monday.
Nunez will join his third organization in less than a month and his fourth since last year's trade deadline. The hard-throwing reliever has spent all of the 2026 campaign in the minors, collecting a 7.13 ERA and 21:19 K:BB across 17.2 frames. Nunez has been assigned to the Cubs' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, where he will go through the organization's pitching lab before eventually being assigned to a full-season affiliate, likely Triple-A Iowa.

Orioles' Eduarniel Nunez: Removed from 40-man roster
The Orioles designated Nunez for assignment Thursday.
Nunez was just acquired via trade from the Athletics in May, but the Orioles will now clear him off the 40-man roster to make room for a new trade acquisition in Kyle Nicolas. The 26-year-old Nunez has posted a 7.13 ERA and 21:19 K:BB across 17.2 frames in the minors this season.

Orioles' Eduarniel Nunez: Acquired from Sacramento
The Orioles acquired Nunez from the Athletics in exchange for cash considerations Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Baltimore has optioned Nunez to Triple-A Norfolk. The 26-year-old was designated for assignment by the Athletics earlier this week and quickly finds work elsewhere after recording a 4.61 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB across 13.2 innings in the minors this season. Nunez was in the 95th percentile with his 98.1 mph fastball across 12.2 innings with the Padres and Athletics last regular season.

Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Scrubbed from 40-man roster
The Athletics designated Nunez for assignment Tuesday.
Acquired from the Padres in the Mason Miller trade, Nunez posted a 7.11 ERA and 11:11 K:BB over 12.2 innings between Padres and Athletics last season. He's split the 2026 season between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Las Vegas, holding a 4.61 ERA and 17:11 K:BB over 13.2 frames. Nunez has poor control, but he's got a big arm and several years of team control, so there's sure to be interest in him via waivers.

Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Optioned to Triple-A
Nunez was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Nunez will open the 2026 campaign at the Triple-A level after appearing in three games during spring training, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 2.2 innings. The right-hander produced a 7.11 ERA and 1.89 WHIP with 11 strikeouts over 12.2 innings in 10 appearances with the Padres and Athletics in 2025. He'll look to impress with Las Vegas in order to potentially get another shot with the big-league roster in 2026.

Acquired from the Padres in a July 31 trade, Nunez has been roughed up for eight runs with a 9:7 K:BB in eight relief innings during his time with the Athletics. The 26-year-old has the potential to develop into a late-inning weapon, but he'll head back to the minors for now.

Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Dispatched to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Nunez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Acquired from the Padres in the Mason Miller trade, Nunez was roughed up for five runs on six hits and four walks over 2.1 innings in his first two appearances with the Athletics. He will be replaced on the 26-man active roster by right-hander Tyler Ferguson, who was recalled from Las Vegas.

Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Promoted to majors
The Athletics recalled Nunez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
Nunez was acquired from the Padres on Thursday in the Mason Miller and JP Sears trade. Nunez made his MLB debut earlier this season with San Diego, registering a 3.86 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 2:4 K:BB across 4.2 innings. He struck out 14.4 batters per nine innings over 35 frames in the minors.

Athletics' Eduarniel Nunez: Joins A's in six-player deal
The Athletics acquired Nunez, shortstop Leo De Vries, right-hander Braden Nett and right-hander Henry Baez from the Padres on Thursday in exchange for right-hander Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Of the four players acquired by the Athletics, Nunez has the closest proximity to the big leagues. He had occupied a spot on the Padres' 40-man roster and made his MLB debut earlier in July, making four relief appearances for San Diego before being demoted shortly before the All-Star break. He had otherwise spent the entire 2025 season in the minors and compiled a 2.06 ERA and 1.03 WHIP while striking out 56 batters over 35 innings between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso. Even if the Athletics opt to have Nunez begin his time in the organization at Triple-A Las Vegas, the right-hander likely won't have to wait long to earn a look in the big-league bullpen.

Padres' Eduarniel Nunez: Optioned to El Paso
The Padres optioned Nunez to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
After giving up two earned runs over 4.2 innings during his first nine days as a major leaguer, Nunez will head back to Triple-A to clear room for Ryan Bergert's (forearm) return from the IL. The 26-year-old Nunez also owns a 2.40 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 30 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season, and if he continues at that rate, he should be able to make another appearance for the Padres at some point down the line.

The right-hander has pitched 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out 11 batters in seven appearances with El Paso since being promoted from Double-A San Antonio on June 10.
