  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Moved to 60-day IL

Atlanta transferred Kerr (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of outfielder Eli White. Kerr is out for 2024 and perhaps all of 2025 after having Tommy John surgery last month.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Headed for Tommy John surgery

Manager Brian Snitker announced Monday that Kerr (elbow) will require Tommy John surgery, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Kerr was moved to the 15-day injured list earlier in the day due to a UCL injury, and Snitker confirmed shortly after that the lefty will undergo surgery to repair the ligament. With the news, Kerr's 2024 campaign will officially come to an end after posting a 5.64 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with a 27:7 K:BB across 22.1 innings. He'll likely also miss a good chunk of the 2025 season depending on how he fares during his rehab.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Goes on IL with UCL injury

Atlanta voided Kerr's option to Triple-A Gwinnett and placed him on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow UCL injury. Kerr had been sent down to Triple-A on June 15, but he never made an appearance for Gwinnett following the demotion, so the transaction has been rescinded. Atlanta hasn't provided much detail regarding Kerr's injury, but UCL damage is often a precursor to Tommy John surgery.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Sent out to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Kerr to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Atlanta will swap the left-handed Kerr out of its bullpen for a right-hander in Grant Holmes, whose contract was selected from Gwinnett in a corresponding move. After making a pair of spot starts in late May, Kerr shifted into a relief role this month and gave up three earned runs on eight hits and four walks over 5.1 innings spanning four appearances.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Back in bullpen Wednesday

Kerr tossed 2.1 innings of relief in Wednesday's 9-0 loss to the Red Sox, giving up two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two. Kerr had started in both of his previous two appearances, but he shifted back to the bullpen this week while Atlanta opted to scale back to a five-man rotation following Monday's off day. With starter Spencer Schwellenbach getting chased from the game midway through the fifth inning while Atlanta faced a 5-0 deficit, Kerr immediately allowed a run-scoring double and then walked a batter before inducing an inning-ending flyout to leave the bases load. The run he let in was tacked on to Schwellenbach's final line, but Kerr was charged with two runs of his own when he served up a 361-foot home run to Rafael Devers in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on base. Assuming Atlanta isn't yet ready to pull the plug on Schwellenbach as its No. 5 starter, Kerr looks set to remain in the bullpen as a lower-leverage, multi-inning option.

  • Braves' Ray Kerr: Surrenders three runs in loss

Kerr (1-2) took the loss against the Nationals on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out seven. Kerr struck out three of the first four batters he faced, but things began to unravel for the 29-year-old in the top of the third after he hit Jacob Young with a pitch. The lefty would end up surrendering three runs in the frame on two hits and a walk while also plunking another batter. Kerr has allowed at least three runs in each of his first two starts, taking the loss on each occasion. He also hasn't gone more than four innings in any of his outings with Atlanta.
