Rays' Junior Caminero: Good to go Sunday
Caminero (back) is starting at third base and batting third in Sunday's spring game against the Blue Jays, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
The 21-year-old exited Thursday's game due to back tightness but will return to the field after taking a couple days off. Caminero is expected be a key lineup piece for the Rays in 2025 after he posted a .723 OPS in 43 games as a rookie last year.

Rays' Junior Caminero: Day-to-day with back tightness
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Caminero (back) is "probably very day-to-day," Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Caminero felt his back tighten up on a swing during Thursday's Grapefruit League contest versus the Phillies. While he could be held out of action for a few days to be safe, Cash said of Caminero that they "don't expect him to miss too much time."

Rays' Junior Caminero: Departs game with back tightness
Caminero was removed from Thursday's Grapefruit League game versus the Phillies due to lower-back tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Caminero struck out in both of his plate appearances before exiting. The Rays should offer an update on the young third baseman's condition after the contest.

Rays' Junior Caminero: Showing pop in spring
Caminero went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
Caminero's hype has grown throughout the winter, as he first delivered a 1.003 OPS across 35 plate appearances in the Dominican Winter League. He now has three home runs across 16 plate appearances in spring training, with one of his long balls Sunday jumping off the bat at 109.3 mph, per Adam Berry of MLB.com. Caminero held his own across 177 plate appearances in the majors in 2024 by posting a .723 OPS, but he's showing the potential to improve upon those results in 2025.

Rays' Junior Caminero: Pops homer in live BP
Caminero slugged a home run Tuesday during a live batting practice session against Rays right-hander Shane Baz, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Caminero is continuing to put his power on full display in the early stages of spring training following a spectacular showing in the Dominican Winter League. While playing for Leones del Escogido, Caminero batted .417 with four home runs and 28 RBI across 22 total games, and the 21-year-old provided perhaps the highlight of the DWL season with a tie-breaking 454-foot solo shot in the top of the ninth inning of Game 7 of the championship series to lead his team to a title. The impressive performance over the winter came after Caminero had a solid, yet somewhat underwhelming run at the MLB level upon receiving a call-up to the Rays last August, slashing .248/.299/.424 with six home runs and two stolen bases over his 177 plate appearances. Now preparing for his first full season in the majors, Caminero should be feeling less pressure to compete for a roster spot this spring, as the Rays have seemingly cleared the way for him to be their everyday third baseman. Though his immense power will likely play well in any ballpark, Caminero's home-run projection should get at least a slight boost while the Rays leave the domed Tropicana Field to play their 2025 home games outdoors in Tampa at Steinbrenner Field, which mimics Yankee Stadium's more hitter-friendly dimensions.
