St. Louis optioned infielder/outfielder Thomas Saggese to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Prieto has gotten off to a great start at Memphis this season, slashing .311/.357/.566 with six home runs over 28 contests. Slated to turn 27 on Sunday, Prieto can handle second base, third base and shortstop and will likely operate mainly as a reserve infielder.

Prieto has struggled at the plate this spring, going just 2-for-17 over six games in the Grapefruit League. Prieto (hamstring) was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Prieto sustained a Grade 1 right hamstring strain Friday and will miss at least a week due to the injury. However, the Orioles are optimistic that the 22-year-old will be back in action following a short-term stay on the injured list.
