• Brewers' Jett Williams: Will focus on shortstop in spring

  Williams said Monday that his positional focus heading into spring training will be at shortstop, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Acquired from the Mets last week in the Freddy Peralta trade, Williams' primary position so far in pro ball has been shortstop, but he's also played second base and center field and considers himself "pretty comfortable at all three positions now." Williams is likely to begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Nashville after hitting only .209/.285/.433at Triple-A Syracuse in 2025 following a late-season promotion. The 22-year-old could debut at some point during the upcoming season, likely either at shortstop or in center field.

• Brewers' Jett Williams: Traded in Peralta deal

  The Mets traded Williams to the Brewers on Wednesday alongside Brandon Sproat in exchange for Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After posting an .867 OPS over 96 games with the Mets' Double-A affiliate last season, Williams received a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse in mid-August and slashed .209/.285/.433 with seven homers, 15 RBI and 21 runs scored across 151 plate appearances. The 22-year-old prospect doesn't own a 40-man roster spot, making it likely that he will report to Triple-A Nashville to begin his tenure with the Brewers. However, he could be promoted sometime during the season if shortstop Joey Ortiz's offensive struggles carry into 2026.

  Williams went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, two triples, two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base for Double-A Binghamton on Thursday. The 21-year-old top prospect has been simply destroying baseballs this week, going 8-for-15 over his last four games, and incredibly all eight knocks -- four doubles, two triples and two homers -- have gone for extra bases. Williams is blocked at his natural shortstop position by Francisco Lindor, but he's seen time at second base and center field this season, and the latter spot might provide his clearest path to a starting job in the majors for the Mets. Williams is slashing .298/.407/.530 for Binghamton with six homers, 18 steals and a 31:42 BB:K in 52 contests, and a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse seems imminent.

• Mets' Jett Williams: Overcomes injury

  Williams (head) has gone 5-for-11 with two home runs, three doubles, three walks, four RBI and four runs in three starts since rejoining the Double-A Binghamton lineup Sunday. He was hit on the helmet by a fastball Friday, but Williams missed just one game before returning to action Sunday and delivered his first career two-homer performance Wednesday. The 21-year-old shortstop has exhibited no ill effects since his return and is slashing .288/.397/.497 with six home runs and 17 stolen bases over 209 plate appearances on the season. A promotion to Triple-A Syracuse may not be too far down the road for Williams.

Williams struggled to stay healthy last year, playing 33 total games and 22 games at Double-A, where he hit .172 with zero home runs. His performance this year is much more in line with expectations, as he is putting his 70-grade speed to use on the bases while showcasing his sneaky pop out of a strong 5-foot-7 frame. Williams has started 15 games at shortstop, two games in center field and one game at second base.

Fellow top prospects Ryan Clifford and Brandon Sproat will join Williams on the big-league side of spring camp. Williams, 21, missed four months of the 2024 season due to wrist surgery and slashed only .215/.358/.298 with zero home runs and five steals in 33 games across three levels. However, Williams remains an intriguing dynasty option due to his on-base skills and speed. He's pegged for Triple-A Syracuse to begin the season, but a bounce-back year could have him pushing to debut sometime in 2025.

• Mets' Jett Williams: Completes rehab assignment

  Double-A Binghamton activated Williams (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Friday. Williams went four months between his injury and the beginning of his rehab assignment after needing a triangular fibrocartilage complex debridement procedure in his right wrist. The ever-patient shortstop hit .250 with four walks, three strikeouts, two steals and zero extra-base hits in five rehab games. Williams has proven to be an on-base machine (career .417 OBP), as he knows the strike zone very well, but he also has plus-plus speed and good bat speed at the plate, so he could turn into a five-category contributor once he matures and fills out.

  Williams (wrist) received a cortisone injection last week, and he won't begin swinging a bat again until it's fully taken effect, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 20-year-old prospect was shut down April 21 due to right wrist soreness and hasn't played since. Williams was struggling in his first look at Double-A pitching, slashing .179/.360/.308, but a wrist issue could help explain the poor performance. Per Mets senior vice president of player development Andy Green, the team is hoping Williams will be back in the lineup for Double-A Binghamton by the end of the month.

  Williams is hitting .207 with a .401 OBP, one home run and 13 steals in 34 games for Single-A St. Lucie. The 19-year-old shortstop has a strong batted-ball profile, with a 32 percent groundball rate and all-fields approach, but it hasn't translated into a high batting average in the early going. Even as an undersized 5-foot-6 middle infielder, Williams is strong where it counts and is expected to eventually develop notable over-the-fence power to go with his 70-grade speed.

He's certainly living up to his name on the basepaths, as Williams has succeeded on all of his steal attempts. The 14th overall pick in this year's draft, the 18-year-old Williams is years and years away from the majors, but he's off to a fine start to his professional career.
