  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Allows three runs in loss

Suarez (12-7) took the loss against the Brewers on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings. Suarez battled but was mostly inefficient, needing 104 pitches to get through five frames. The southpaw has walked multiple batters in three straight starts and has failed to complete six innings in each of his five outings since returning from the injured list Aug. 24. On the season, he owns a 3.13 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 139:36 K:BB across 143.2 innings and lines up to face the Mets on the road this weekend.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Gives up 12 hits

Suarez didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 9-4 win over Tampa Bay, allowing four runs on 12 hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out two. The 12 hits given up by Suarez are a new season high. The left-hander's been in a rut of late -- he's failed to make it through six innings in seven of his last eight starts, posting a 6.02 ERA in that span. Overall, Suarez is 12-6 on the season with a 3.05 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 134:33 K:BB across 24 starts (138.2 innings). He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in Milwaukee.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Scoreless start leads to 12th win

Suarez (12-6) picked up the win Thursday, allowing three hits and two walks over five scoreless innings against the Marlins. He struck out four. Suarez didn't allow a baserunner to get past second base as he tossed his first outing of at least five innings with no runs allowed since mid-May. While he maintains an ERA of 2.90 with a 1.07 WHIP on the season, the 29-year-old lefty had struggled over his previous six starts with a 6.90 ERA and 1.60 WHIP across 30 innings. It was the 12th win of the season for Suarez, good for a tie for 11th in all of baseball, but just his third win since the calendar turned to June. He will look to continue to round back into form as the Phillies head toward the playoffs, with his next start scheduled to take place at home against the Rays.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Yields four runs

Suarez (11-6) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk over four innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Atlanta. Suarez threw two scoreless frames before Atlanta plated two runs in each of the third and fourth innings. He served up back-to-back homers to Orlando Arcia and Sean Murphy in the third. It was just the second time this year that Suarez gave up multiple home runs in an outing and he's allowed just 11 through 128.1 innings this season. He's posted a 6.25 ERA while going 1-5 over his last seven outings, raising his season ERA to 3.02. Suarez is in line to start in Miami next week.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Earns win in return

Suarez (11-5) allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings to earn the win Saturday in the Phillies' 11-2 victory over the Phillies. Suarez missed a month due to back soreness, which partially explains why he posted a 6.67 ERA over 27 innings across his last five starts before heading to the injured list. He was back in strong form Saturday, though he threw just 72 pitches (46 strikes) in the blowout win, earning his first victory since June 8. The southpaw is now at a 2.82 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 122:28 K:BB through 124.1 innings over 21 starts this season. He's lined up for a home start versus Atlanta next week.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Activated ahead of start

The Phillies reinstated Suarez (back) from the 15-day injured list Saturday. Suarez landed on the injured list in late July with lower-back soreness, and he'll now return after nearly a month to start Saturday's game against the Royals. He didn't pitch in a rehab game in the minors during his recovery, so there's a good chance he'll be working under some sort of pitch count during his first start since July 22. Tyler Gilbert was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Lines up for Saturday start

Suarez (back) lines up to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday against the Royals, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The left-hander still needs to complete a bullpen session in the next couple days, but he should return Saturday assuming he doesn't suffer a setback. Suarez landed on the shelf in late July due to lower-back soreness, and he'll likely face some minor workload restrictions in his return to the rotation while coming back without a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Lined up for Aug. 23-25 series

Suarez (back) is tentatively lined up to rejoin the Phillies' rotation during their Aug. 23-25 series in Kansas City, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez threw a simulated game Tuesday, which was the first time he's faced hitters since he went down with lower-back soreness in late July. He'll face hitters again Sunday, either in another simulated setting or in a rehab start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. If Suarez comes out of that with no issues, he will be cleared to rejoin the rotation the following weekend.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Live BP session on tap

Suarez (back) is scheduled to throw an extended live batting practice session Tuesday, MLB.com reports. "We're going to push him a little bit," manager Rob Thomson said of the upcoming session. Thomson said that Suarez tossed a "touch-and-feel" bullpen session Sunday in Arizona, which followed a 36-pitch simulated game this past Thursday. Suarez looks set to ramp up the volume and intensity of his pitches Tuesday, after which the Phillies might have a better idea regarding when he might return from the 15-day injured list. Thomson suggested that Suarez won't be activated until after the Phillies' homestand that ends Sunday, so the left-hander shouldn't be expected to rejoin the rotation until at least next Tuesday in Atlanta.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Tosses successful side session

Suarez (back) threw a bullpen session Monday without issue, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez completed his expected throwing session Monday and will likely be checked on Tuesday by the club's training staff to determine if he can advance to the next step in his rehab. The southpaw will need to progress to facing live hitters before getting the green light to return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Unlikely to return when eligible

Suarez (back) is expected to throw a bullpen session either Sunday or Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Suarez is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and the left-hander will take the first step toward being activated when he throws his first bullpen session. There was optimism from the Phillies that Suarez would be able to return during the team's four-game series in Arizona that begins Thursday, but that now seems unlikely. The left-hander was placed on the IL with lower-back soreness last week and considering Philadelphia is five games up on Atlanta for first place in the NL East, the team will likely be cautious in its efforts to get him back.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Eyeing minimum-length IL stint

The Phillies remain hopeful that Suarez (back) will return from the 15-day injured list to make a start during the club's four-game series in Arizona that begins next Thursday, MLB.com reports. Suarez is first eligible to come off the IL next Wednesday after he was deactivated July 27 due to lower-back soreness. The Phillies seemingly placed Suarez on the IL as a matter of precaution more than anything else, given that he had already been dealing with spasms on the right side of his back heading into the All-Star break. The lefty hasn't been shut down from throwing, so assuming he's able to complete a bullpen session and/or face hitters without issue this weekend or early next week, he should be cleared to rejoin the rotation in Arizona.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Lands on IL

The Phillies placed Suarez on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to lower-back soreness. Suarez allowed three earned runs in 5.1 innings Monday against the Twins, and he appears to have aggravated his lingering back issue during his latest outing. His move to the IL is retroactive to Wednesday, so the 28-year-old southpaw will be eligible to return beginning Aug. 8. In the meantime, Kolby Allard will come up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to claim the open spot on the active roster and could possibly fill in for Suarez as the Phillies' starter for Sunday's contest.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Tagged with fifth loss

Suarez (10-5) took the loss Monday against Minnesota, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out four. After pitching to a 1.75 ERA across his first 15 starts, the Philadelphia southpaw has struggled over his last five outings, generating an unsightly 6.67 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 27 innings. Batters have started hitting Suarez better lately, as he's now allowed six or more knocks in eight consecutive appearances. However, this outing marks the 11th of the season in which the 28-year-old hasn't yielded a long ball. He sports a 0.7 HR/9, which would be a career best for a season in which he was predominantly a starter. Suarez currently lines up to make his next start against Cleveland at home this weekend.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Cleared to start Monday

Suarez (back) is listed as the Phillies' probable starter for Monday's game against the Twins at Target Field. Suarez opted to skip out on pitching in the All-Star Game this past week while he had contended with back tightness leading up to the end of the first half of the season, but as expected, he'll be ready to pitch in the Phillies' second series coming out of the break. Despite being lit up for 15 earned runs over 15.2 innings across his last three starts, Suarez still has maintained sterling ratios over his 19 outings on the season (2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 18.8 K-BB%). His fantasy managers can feel comfortable activating him in what shapes up as a two-start week for Suarez, who is lined up to get the ball again next weekend in Cleveland.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Hurting but won't miss start

Suarez won't be available for Tuesday's All-Star Game while he recovers from back tightness, but the Phillies expect him to be available to make his first start of the second half July 22 or 23 in Minnesota, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Suarez hasn't been forced to miss any time due to the back issue and likely would have been available to start during the upcoming week if the Phillies needed him, but he'll instead use the All-Star break to heal up while he's less than 100 percent healthy. Though he's in the midst of a career-best season and was looking forward to pitching in his first Midsummer Classic, Suarez clearly hasn't been at his best of late, as he has struggled to an 8.62 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 15.2 innings over his last three starts, two of which have come against sub-.500 clubs in the Marlins and Athletics. Suarez won't travel to Arlington, Texas, for the All-Star Game and will instead remain in Philadelphia to continue throwing. Zack Wheeler is also tending to a back issue and will skip the All-Star Game, but both he and Suarez are expected to take the hill in some order when the Phillies next require fourth and fifth starters July 22 and 23.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Struggles again in loss

Suarez (10-4) took the loss against the Athletics on Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over six innings. Suarez allowed three two-out runs in a rough third inning and then yielded another run in the fifth. While the Phillies offense didn't help much Friday, he has been stuck on 10 wins since June 8 and has surrendered 16 earned runs over his past three outings. The first-time All-Star still owns an impressive 2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 112:26 K:BB this season and will look to hit the reset button over the break.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Takes third loss

Suarez (10-3) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings to take the loss versus Atlanta on Saturday. Only three Atlanta batters got hits in the contest, but they each had two against Suarez. Ozzie Albies and Marcell Ozuna both homered and combined to drive in all five runs. Suarez has allowed 15 runs (13 earned) across 15.2 innings over his last three starts, accounting for three of the four times he's given up at least four runs this year. He's at a 2.58 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 106:23 K:BB through 108 innings over 18 starts. Suarez will look to end his early-summer swoon in a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Allows four runs in loss

Suarez (10-2) took the loss against the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts over six innings. Suarez opened with four scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing four runs on five hits in the frame. He rebounded with a scoreless sixth but departed with a 4-0 deficit. This was just the second time Suarez allowed four earned runs in an outing this season, as he had allowed only four total earned runs in 20.1 June innings prior to Tuesday. The southpaw owns a 2.01 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 99:19 K:BB this season and lines up for another start this weekend, this one against the Marlins.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Settles for no-decision Wednesday

Suarez came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Padres, allowing one run on six hits over six innings. He struck out four without walking a batter. The lefty was sharp as he delivered his 10th quality start of the season, firing 67 of 94 pitches for strikes, but he was locked in a pitchers' duel with Matt Waldron until the Phillies' bullpen and defense faltered after Suarez left the mound. The 28-year-old will take a 1.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 95:19 K:BB through 92.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Detroit.
