• Giants' Landen Roupp: Throws first live BP of spring

  Roupp (knee) completed his first live batting practice session of the spring Saturday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The right-hander did not make an appearance after Aug. 20 last year after taking a comebacker off his knee, but he appears to be all set for a normal camp without restrictions. While Roupp does not throw particularly hard and has a modest strikeout rate, he has achieved respectable results (3.80 ERA over 106.2 innings last season). He figures to be locked into a rotation spot for San Francisco to begin 2026.

• Giants' Landen Roupp: Completes bullpen session

  Roupp (knee) tossed a 25-pitch bullpen session at Oracle Park on Friday, MLB.com reports. Roupp isn't expected to pitch again this season after landing on the 15-day injured list Aug. 22 due to a left knee bone bruise, but his ability to get back on the mound just under a month after suffering the injury suggests that he'll be in line for a relatively normal offseason. The 27-year-old proved to be a serviceable member of the rotation when healthy in 2025, logging a 7-7 record with a 3.80 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 102:45 K:BB in 106.2 innings.

• Giants' Landen Roupp: Diagnosed with bone bruise

  Thursday's MRI revealed Roupp has a bone bruise in his left knee, and the pitcher will seek out a second opinion, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. It's a generally positive result for Roupp, who was struck by a comebacker and fell awkwardly during Wednesday's start before requiring a cart to exit the field of play. While Roupp is on the IL, Carson Whisenhunt should fill the open spot in the rotation.

  The Giants placed Roupp on the 15-day injured list Friday with left knee inflammation. The club is calling it inflammation for now, but Roupp underwent an MRI on Thursday and a more specific diagnosis could come Friday, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. Roupp was injured during Wednesday's start versus the Padres after being struck by a comebacker and then twisting awkwardly when he fell to the ground. Carson Whisenhunt is taking Roupp's spot on the roster and in the rotation.

  Roupp allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over three-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Rays on Friday. Roupp missed three weeks due to right elbow inflammation. He wasn't great in his return from the injured list -- aside from a tidy 12-pitch first inning, he struggled to keep the Rays in check. The 26-year-old is now at a 3.45 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 100:43 K:BB over 104.1 innings across 21 starts this season. When factoring in his three-inning rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento, Roupp's workload is equal to his career-high 107.1 frames from 2022, which came across three levels of the minors. That makes fatigue a risk over the last quarter of this campaign. Roupp is projected to make his next start at San Diego.

The right-hander has been on the shelf since July 25 with right elbow inflammation, but he'll rejoin the major-league roster after just 20 days away. In his first appearance since landing on the injured list July 25 due to right elbow inflammation, Roupp flashed his normal velocity and exhibited good control, pumping 33 of his 50 pitches in for strikes. The Giants will likely want Roupp to push his workload up into the 75-pitch range before activating him from the IL, so he'll presumably require at least one more start in the minors.

  Roupp (7-6) earned the win Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing four hits and one walk in five shutout innings. He struck out six. Roupp delivered his third scoreless start in his last six games, and he hasn't conceded more than two runs in any outing during that stretch. While the right-hander had a poor 5.10 ERA following his April 30 start in San Diego, he's produced a much-improved 2.27 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 60:28 K:BB over his last 14 appearances (71.1 innings). Roupp will look to keep the good times rolling in a soft spot at home versus the last-place Pirates his next time out.

  Roupp didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Arizona, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks over four-plus innings. He struck out four. Roupp held the Diamondbacks scoreless through four innings, but he was promptly pulled before logging an out in the fifth frame. He yielded a leadoff homer, back-to-back walks and then a single, leaving the bases loaded for Erik Miller. Roupp has been excellent since being tagged for six runs across 1.2 innings during a June 14 start against the Dodgers, boasting a 1.17 ERA and a 15:9 K:BB in 15.1 innings across three starts since. He's scheduled to face the Phillies next time out.

  Roupp allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five over 6.1 scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday. Roupp rebounded from his previous outing, in which he allowed four runs (one earned) over four-plus innings against the Tigers. He was excellent Tuesday, throwing 63 of 92 pitches for strikes, but Camilo Doval blew a save chance in the ninth inning and the Giants ultimately lost in the 10th. After an unremarkable start to the season, Roupp has kept runs off the board in three of his last four appearances, a stretch that has also seen him surrender zero home runs in 22.1 innings. Overall, he's at a 3.18 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and 61:22 K:BB through 62.1 innings over 12 starts. It's unclear when Roupp will next take the mound, as it's possible Justin Verlander (pectoral) comes back to make a start this weekend at home versus Atlanta rather than early next week in Colorado. Roupp would be on regular rest for Sunday's game against Atlanta if Verlander is not activated from the injured list.

Roupp turned in his third quality start of the season with his first scoreless outing. He threw 59 of 92 pitches for strikes, though a lack of run support led to him coming away without a win for a fifth straight start. He also issued a walk for the first time in three starts. Roupp has been passable this season with a 4.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB in 46 innings across nine starts, numbers similar to what he posted in a swingman role in 2024. He's had a bit more trouble with the long ball, however, allowing six homers in 2025 compared to just two over 50.1 innings last season.
