  • Cubs' Jayden Murray: Optioned to Iowa

The Cubs optioned Murray to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

After a rocky appearance Friday against Milwaukee, Murray will head back down to Iowa after just being recalled Tuesday. The 29-year-old made two appearances after being called up, giving up six earned runs on six hits and two walks through three innings. Bryse Wilson will be added to the active roster as a corresponding move.

  • Cubs' Jayden Murray: Recalled from Triple-A

The Cubs recalled Murray from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

Murray was acquired via trade from the Astros this past weekend and will report directly to the major-league club. The 29-year-old reliever holds a 4.68 ERA and 16:10 K:BB across 25 innings over the last two seasons during his time in the big leagues.

  • Cubs' Jayden Murray: Dealt to Cubs

The Cubs acquired Murray from the Astros on Saturday in exchange for first baseman Cameron Sisneros, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Houston designated Murray for assignment Tuesday after he allowed 11 earned runs in just 13.1 frames in the majors. He owns a 1.17 ERA and 0.79 WHIP at the Triple-A level this season, however, so the Cubs will take a chance on him and add him to their 40-man roster. The 29-year-old still has minor-league options remaining and therefore doesn't have to join the 26-man active roster immediately, though he could report directly to Chicago to provide the big club with a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: DFA'd by Houston

The Astros designated Murray for assignment Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Murray has made eight appearances out of the Houston bullpen this season, allowing 11 runs with an 8:7 K:BB over 13.1 frames. The 29-year-old has a chance to clear waivers and remain in the organization.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Joins major-league bullpen

The Astros recalled Murray from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

It will be the fourth stint in the big leagues this season for Murray, who has not fared well in his first three outings with the Astros, holding a 7.15 ERA and 5:7 K:BB across 11.1 frames. Murray will give manager Joe Espada a fresh option in the bullpen.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Back to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Murray to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, reports Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.

The 29-year-old will be replaced by Alimber Santa on Houston's 26-man active roster. Murray struggled in his most recent appearance Monday against Minnesota, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks. He has given up at least two earned runs in four of his seven appearances with Houston this season.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Returns to majors

The Astros recalled Murray from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Julia Morales of Space City Home Network reports.

Murray was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday, but he'll now return to the big-league bullpen to replace Bennett Sousa (elbow), who landed on the IL on Saturday. Murray will likely be limited to middle-relief duties after giving up four earned runs over six innings during his first four appearances with the Astros this year.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Sent back to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Murray to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.

Murray will give up his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Ryan Weiss, who was reinstated from the paternity list. After being recalled from Triple-A on April 19, Murray made three appearances out of the bullpen but had gone unused over the Astros' last six games.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Back in big leagues

The Astros recalled Murray from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.

The right-hander was optioned to Sugar Land last week but will rejoin the Astros with Joey Loperfido (quadriceps) landing on the injured list. Murray allowed two runs over two innings with a 3:3 K:BB in his lone appearance for Houston this season

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Headed back to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Murray to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

Houston will replace Murray on the active roster with Colton Gordon, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move and would appear to be a strong candidate to make a start during the team's upcoming three-game series versus the Rockies after the Astros lost three rotation members to the injured list within the last week. Murray was unlikely to be available out of the Houston bullpen for at least another day or two after he was pressed into long relief in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Mariners. He tossed two innings and 38 pitches in his 2026 big-league debut, giving up two earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Murray from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday.

Murray has given up just one earned run over six innings to begin the season in Triple-A and will presumably take on a middle-relief role now that he's with Houston. J.P. France was optioned to Sugar Land in a corresponding move.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Sent to minor-league camp

The Astros optioned Murray to minor-league camp Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Murray has made five appearances this spring, yielding five runs with a 7:5 K:BB across six innings. The 28-year-old will provide relief depth at Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Sharp as opener Friday

Murray didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-3 rout of Atlanta, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings. He struck out one without walking a batter.

Making just his third big-league appearance, Murray faced one batter over the minimum as the opener while tossing an efficient 32 of 40 pitches for strikes. The Astros currently have only four healthy starting pitchers and seemingly no help coming from either Triple-A or the injured list, so they could be turning to their well-stocked bullpen every fifth turn through the rotation, with Murray likely to be part of that equation. The 28-year-old righty hasn't given up a run in his first 5.1 MLB innings, and Friday's third-inning single by Marcell Ozuna was the first baserunner he'd allowed.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Opening Friday's game

Murray will serve as the Astros' opening pitcher for Friday's game in Atlanta, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Murray has made two scoreless relief appearances for the Astros since being called up earlier this month. He's a former starter but has been used exclusively in relief in 2025, so Murray is likely available only for an inning or two. AJ Blubaugh is a good bet to eat some innings Friday in what will be a bullpen game for Houston.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Contract selected

The Astros selected Murray's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Spencer Arrighetti's (elbow) move to the injured list Wednesday will open up a spot on Houston's pitching staff for Murray to join the big club for the first time in his career. The 28-year-old carries a 4.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 64 innings in Triple-A this season and will likely be limited to low-leverage situations to begin his tenure with the Astros.

  • Astros' Jayden Murray: Shifted to minor-league camp

The Astros reassigned Murray to minor-league camp Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Murray spent most of last season in Double-A, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through 97.2 innings. The 25-year-old righty had a strong spring, throwing eight scoreless innings with five strikeouts, and likely earned himself a promotion to Triple-A for the start of 2023.
