  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Poor outing Saturday

Urena (0-3) took the loss Saturday against the Royals after allowing four runs on six hits and five walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out three. Urena looked impressive in his first start of the season April 19 against the Padres with six-plus innings of two-run ball and eight strikeouts, but he couldn't repeat that outing here. The right-hander failed to consistently find the strike zone Saturday, as he tossed just 44 of his 81 pitches for strikes and was lifted before completing four innings. It remains to be seen if Urena will get another turn in the rotation, but this outing increased his ERA to 4.76 and WHIP to 2.21. If Urena gets another start, he'd be tentatively lined up to face the Mets at home next weekend.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Drawing another start

Urena is slated to start Saturday's game against the Royals in Kansas City, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Summoned from Triple-A Salt Lake last weekend to make his first MLB start, Urena spun a gem for the Halos, striking out eight and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across six innings in a losing effort against the Padres. He'll be awarded another turn through the rotation on the heels of that strong outing, but Urena's stay with the big club could come to an end as soon as Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) is ready to return from the injured list, likely at some point in May.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Shows promise in second loss

Urena (0-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six-plus innings against the Padres. He struck out eight. Urena turned in a solid performance in a losing effort, limiting hard contact and generating a game-high 13 whiffs en route to eight strikeouts. After making the Angels' Opening Day roster and appearing twice out of the bullpen, the right-hander was sent to Triple-A Salt Lake to work as a starter before being recalled Saturday. It remains to be seen whether he'll receive another start this rotation cycle, though Sunday's outing was a positive.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Start moved to Monday

Detmers is no longer scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Padres and will instead take the hill for Monday's game versus the Blue Jays in Anaheim, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rather than waiting until the upcoming week to break in a new fifth starter, the Angels will have Walbert Urena enter the rotation for Sunday's series finale. Detmers tentatively lines up for two starts next week as a result, with his second turn set to come next Sunday in Kansas City.

  • Angels' Sam Aldegheri: Sent back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Aldegheri to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Aldegheri made his season debut Thursday against the Yankees and gave up one earned run on a solo home run in 1.2 innings. He'll now rejoin the rotation at Triple-A Salt Lake and be replaced on the big-league roster by Walbert Urena.
