  • Rockies' Anthony Molina: Records five outs in first start

Molina gave up three earned runs on two hits and three walks across 1.2 innings in Monday's 8-6 win over the Guardians. Molina stepped in for his first MLB start on short notice after Austin Gomber (arm) was scratched ahead of the game, but the Rule 5 pick ended up serving as more of an opener than a traditional starting pitcher. He needed 45 pitches just to record five outs before being pulled in favor of Josh Rogers, who tossed five innings of two-run ball in bulk relief. If Gomber ends up landing on the injured list and isn't able to make his next turn this weekend in Los Angeles, Rogers would likely be the preferred choice over Molina to make a spot start or cover the bulk of the innings.

  • Rockies' Anthony Molina: Starting Monday against Guardians

Molina will start Monday's game against the Guardians, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. With Austin Gomber (arm) scratched, Molina will step in for his first career MLB start. A Rule 5 pick by the Rockies last winter, Molina has pitched to a 7.56 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in nine appearances so far this season. He's maxed out at 3.2 innings in an outing, so this will now be a bullpen day for Colorado.

  • Rays' Anthony Molina: Reassigned to minor-league camp

Molina was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Rays on Thursday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Molina struggled this spring, which isn't a surprise considering he's 21 and hasn't pitched above A-ball. He did finish 2022 strong at High-A Bowling Green and figures to begin 2023 at Double-A Montgomery.
