Player Outlook
Mickey Gasper has one of the best mustaches in baseball and he has hit .303/.406/.512 in nearly 500 plate appearances in Triple-A, so he's got that for him, which is nice. That minor league success has not showing up in the majors as the swiss army knife has done little at the plate, or behind it. The Twins used Gasper at four different positions on the field, primarily as their reserve catcher. The switch hitter is an interesting last round or dollar play in AL-Only leagues because of that minor league success but we cannot blame you if you were wholly underwhelmed by what you saw in his 45 games played last season. He does not have the biceps of a Ben Rortvedt, but the statistical arc looks rather similar and the Twins moved on from the latter option quickly.

  • Nationals' Mickey Gasper: Removed from 40-man roster

The Nationals designated Gasper for assignment Thursday. The move frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Richard Lovelady, who was claimed off waivers. Gasper was also a waiver claim of the Nationals just last week and could be on the move to another organization. He's a career .133/.250/.195 hitter over 58 career games in the majors but will have appeal due to his ability to play catcher, first base, second base and left field.

  • Nationals' Mickey Gasper: Claimed off waivers by Nationals

The Nationals claimed Gasper off waivers from the Twins on Tuesday. Gasper had been booted off the Twins' 40-man roster, and he's now joining a new organization. The 30-year-old sports a lowly .133/.250/.195 batting line over 58 career games in the majors, but he can play catcher, first base, second base and left field and also has minor-league options remaining.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Cleared from 40-man roster

The Twins designated Gasper for assignment Wednesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Vidal Brujan, who was claimed off waivers. Gasper slashed only .158/.257/.232 over 45 contests with the Twins in 2025, but his ability to play catcher, first base, second base and left field could attract the interest of clubs via the waivers process.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Goes deep in win

Gasper went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over Toronto. Gasper was 2-for-3 with a run scored before belting a clutch, game-tying shot in the ninth inning. It was his first career home run and his first hit since July 26. He entered Tuesday's game in an 0-for-26 slump before the three-hit performance. Gasper owns a .491 OPS through 77 MLB plate appearances this season.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Drawing fourth straight start

Gasper will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Royals. Despite going 0-for-10 at the dish while starting each of the past three games at either first base or designated hitter, Gasper will stick in the lineup Sunday, this time filling in behind the plate while Ryan Jeffers serves as the Twins' DH. Gasper is likely to fade back into a reserve role once Matt Wallner (personal) returns from the paternity list in the next day or two.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Shut down with foot injury

Triple-A St. Paul placed Gasper on its 7-day injured list Monday due to bilateral plantar fasciitis. The severity of Gasper's injury isn't clear, but the fact that he's battling plantar fasciitis on both feet suggests he'll likely be sidelined for more than the minimum seven days. Gasper has put up a porous .488 OPS over 39 plate appearances with the Twins this season, but he's crushed Triple-A pitching, slashing .318/.418/.609 with 10 home runs in 40 games for St. Paul.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Called up as 27th man

The Twins recalled Gasper from Triple-A St. Paul to serve as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Guardians, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Gasper wasn't available for the resumption of Monday's suspended game earlier in the day, but he'll join the Twins for Wednesday's regularly scheduled contest before likely heading back to Triple-A. The utility infielder has logged 39 plate appearances with the Twins on the season and has slashed .176/.282/.206 with no home runs or stolen bases.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Back on bench Thursday

Gasper is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Guardians. Gasper will hit the bench after he had served as the Twins' designated hitter in three of the past four games while going 2-for-11 with an RBI and a run. The switch-hitting 29-year-old could see an uptick in opportunities while the Twins are without Royce Lewis (hamstring), Matt Wallner (hamstring) and Willi Castro (oblique), though manager Rocco Baldelli may prefer to rotate a number of players at the DH spot rather than settling on Gasper as the team's primary option.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Cracks Opening Day roster

Gasper said that he's fine after suffering a left ankle laceration in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox, and noted Monday that he has been told he made the Twins' Opening Day roster, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Gasper received six stitches to seal the cut, which he suffered when he was spiked by teammate Brandon Winokur while attempting to field a groundball. The laceration is not expected to hinder him moving forward, and Gasper has earned a spot on the Opening Day roster after slashing .289/.404/.395 this spring. The switch hitter is capable of handling first base, second base and catcher.

  • Twins' Mickey Gasper: Receives stitches on ankle

Gasper received six stitches for a left ankle laceration after leaving Sunday's spring game against the Red Sox, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. The 29-year-old collided with teammate Brandon Winokur while attempting to field a groundball and appeared to catch a spike. Gasper was acquired from the Red Sox in December and hit well during spring training with a .289/.404/.395 slash line in 47 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Mickey Gasper: Sent down to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Gasper to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Gasper will give way to Trevor Story (shoulder) on the active roster as Story returns from the 60-day injured list. Gasper failed to log a hit in 16 plate appearances with the Red Sox but holds a 1.179 OPS at Triple-A.

  • Red Sox's Mickey Gasper: Added to roster

The Red Sox selected Gasper's contract from Triple-A Worcester, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Gasper has slashed .341/.458/.559 with 12 home runs this season between Double-A Portland and Worcester, splitting time primarily between catcher and first base. The 28-year-old's presence on the roster could allow the Red Sox to use their top two backstops, Connor Wong and Danny Jansen, in the same lineup more often.
