  • Astros' Luis Contreras: Optioned to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Contreras to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Contreras had cruised through 4.1 scoreless innings through his first four MLB appearances, but he'll now be sent back to Triple-A after allowing six earned runs in just 1.2 frames Friday. It's possible he returns to Houston if he gets back to putting up numbers similar to his 1.40 ERA in Triple-A, but for now the Astros will call up Kaleb Ort to replace Contreras in the bullpen.

  • Astros' Luis Contreras: Back with big club

The Astros recalled Contreras from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. After being optioned to Triple-A on Friday, Contreras is back with the big club with Jake Bloss (shoulder) headed to the injured list. Contreras has pitched well in his 19 outings with Sugar Land this season, posting a 1.40 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB over 19.1 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander could make his major-league debut out of the bullpen in his second call-up with the Astros.

  • Astros' Luis Contreras: Receives call to big leagues

The Astros selected Contreras' contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. After several years in the Brewers organization, Contreras joined the Astros on a minor-league deal last winter. The right-hander has put up impressive numbers at Triple-A -- he owns a 1.40 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB in 19.1 innings this season -- and it looks like he will get a chance to make his major-league debut in the coming days. He replaces Nick Hernandez in the Houston bullpen.
