  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Sent back to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Scott to Triple-A Memphis on Friday. During his three-day stint in the big leagues, Scott went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and he'll now end up as the Cardinals' roster casualty as Luken Baker returns from paternity leave. Assuming he's played his final game in the majors this season, Scott will finish his rookie campaign with a .179/.219/.283 slash line alongside 10 RBI through 155 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Rejoins big club

The Cardinals recalled Scott from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday. Scott is replacing Luken Baker, who went on paternity leave. It's not clear how much, if any, playing time Scott will receive, and his stay might last only a few days while Baker is away.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Sent back to minors

The Cardinals optioned Scott to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday. Scott hadn't made a start over the past week after Michael Siani returned from the injured list, so the Cardinals will send him back to Memphis where he can play every day. Thomas Saggese has been called up in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Exiting lineup Wednesday

Scott is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. Scott will get a day off after he had started each of the previous six contests, reaching base nine times over that span. Lars Nootbaar will shift over to center field and will be flanked by Tommy Pham in left and Alec Burleson in right.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Swipes bag in loss

Scott went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Padres. Scott has gone 7-for-21 (.333) with a home run and three steals over his last six contests. The rookie outfielder is batting .226 during his current stint in the majors, but that's a significant improvement on his .157 average for the season. He's up to five steals, two homers, eight RBI, 10 runs scored and seven doubles through 130 plate appearances. Scott will likely continue to handle a starting role in center field until Michael Siani (oblique) returns from his rehab assignment.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Breaks out with three hits, steal

Scott went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and one run scored in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Brewers. Scott had gone 4-for-27 over his previous nine contests before putting together a strong effort from the bottom of the order in this game. His steal Thursday was his third of the campaign in 35 games, as his prolific speed (29 steals in 74 games with Triple-A Memphis) has been hampered by his trouble getting on base in the majors. Even with the three-hit effort, Scott is batting .144 on the year with a .411 OPS, one home run, six RBI and eight runs scored over 111 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Out of starting lineup

Scott is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Brewers. Scott had started seven straight games but went just 3-for-22 with eight strikeouts. The Cardinals will prioritize offense over defense Wednesday, putting Lars Nootbaar in center field and flanking him with Tommy Pham and Alec Burleson in left and right field, respectively.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Making fourth straight start

Scott will start in center field and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Rays, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Scott was not in the lineup for the first game upon his recall Sunday, but he's now started four straight contests, with two of them coming versus righties and two against lefties. It's a fluid playing time situation in center field for the Cardinals while they deal with the absence of Michael Siani (oblique), but the speedy Scott looks to be the preferred option at the moment.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Belts first career homer

Scott went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Rays. The rookie got the Cardinals on the board in the second inning when he drove a Jeffrey Springs fastball over the fence in right field. It was Scott's first career homer in the majors, and the 23-year-old may be carrying his hot streak at Triple-A forward -- over his last seven games for Memphis prior to Sunday's promotion, Scott was batting .370 (10-for-27) with three homers, two steals, nine runs, 10 RBI and a 6:4 BB:K.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Returns to Triple-A

The Cardinals optioned Scott to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The 23-year-old was called up to serve as the 27th man for Thursday's game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, and he'll head back to Memphis after appearing as a defensive replacement. Scott has a .550 OPS in 45 games at Triple-A since being demoted in late April.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Sitting again Saturday

Scott is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers. Scott returned to the starting lineup Friday, but he finished 0-for-3 and has not reached base since April 12 against the Diamondbacks. He's had a rough start to his major-league career, slashing .085/.138/.136 while striking out 15 times over 65 plate appearances this season. Mike Siani starts in center field Saturday, batting ninth against Brewers left-hander DL Hall.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Sits out third time in four games

Scott is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Oakland. Scott has now been out of the lineup for two games in a row and in three of the last four contests. Mike Siani has handled center field in all three instances. Scott has gone just 5-for-65 at the plate to begin his major-league career, and it's possible he's losing the grip on his starting job in center field.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Nabs second steal

Scott went 0-for-3 with a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch in Monday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Phillies. Scott continues to start in center field, but he's hitting just .077 and getting on base at a .163 clip through his first 11 games. That's not good enough to let his speed shine on the basepaths. He's added a 2:11 BB:K, two doubles and six runs scored through 43 plate appearances. Tommy Edman (wrist) was cleared for baseball activities Monday but still has a long ramp-up period ahead, while Dylan Carlson (shoulder) is not close to a return. Scott may be at risk of losing playing time when Lars Nootbaar (ribs) is activated from the injured list, which could come later this week.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Leading off in home opener

Scott will start in center field and bat leadoff Thursday against the Marlins. The Cardinals are hamstrung by injuries right now, with normal leadoff hitter Brendan Donovan (elbow) and Willson Contreras (hand) unavailable Thursday and Lars Nootbaar (ribs) and Tommy Edman (wrist) still on the injured list. The domino effect is Scott getting a test drive in the leadoff spot for the home opener, even as the Marlins are starting a lefty in Ryan Weathers. Scott is 3-for-25 with one stolen base in his first seven major-league games.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Logs steal in debut

Scott went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 7-1 loss to the Dodgers. Scott got aboard on an error in the fifth inning and immediately showcased the speed that has had him on the fast track to the majors. He'll still need to show his bat is up to the challenge now that the games count. Scott hit .317 in spring training, but the regular season is a different beast. He'll get an extended audition while Tommy Edman (wrist) and Dylan Carlson (shoulder) are out. Scott shouldn't be too far away from a full-time major-league gig, but it wouldn't be surprising if he gets time at Triple-A after skipping over that level of the minors due to the Cardinals' injury problems.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Added to roster ahead of debut

The Cardinals selected Scott's contract from Double-A Springfield on Wednesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Scott was reassigned to minor-league camp over the weekend but has been thrust back on to the big-league roster with Dylan Carlson (shoulder) going down. The speedy rookie will be in line for everyday center field duties while Carlson and Tommy Edman (wrist) are sidelined. It's questionable how ready Scott's bat is, but his speed alone makes him worthy of a fantasy roster spot.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Could be needed with Carlson out

Scott is a candidate to join the major-league roster in the wake of Dylan Carlson's (shoulder) injury, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Carlson injured his left shoulder and also banged up his hip and ankle during a collision in the outfield with teammate Jordan Walker on Monday. The seriousness of Carlson's injury isn't known yet, but if he needs to miss time it would further deplete a Cardinals outfield that's already missing Tommy Edman (wrist) and Lars Nootbaar (ribs). It could create an opening for Scott, who was reassigned to minor-league camp over the weekend following an impressive showing this spring. Scott is a worthy speculative late-round fantasy target or waiver-wire add.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Starting again in center field

Scott is starting in center field and batting leadoff for the Cardinals in Wednesday's Grapefruit League contest against the Twins. It's the third time in the team's last four games that Scott has been in center field and at the top of the batting order. Also notable is that Wednesday's lineup features Dylan Carlson in left field, marking the first time those two players have occupied those positions in the same game. Carlson has been the Cards' presumed starter in center field while Tommy Edman (wrist) is out, with president of baseball operations John Mozeliak last week downplaying the possibility of Scott making the Opening Day roster. However, the club seems to be leaving the door ajar for Scott with the way he's turned heads this spring. The speedy outfielder is slashing .370/.469/.444 in Grapefruit League play and is 7-for-11 with two steals, an RBI and four runs scored over his last three contests.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Turning heads with speed

Scott has gone 3-for-15 with three walks, a triple and two stolen bases over six Grapefruit League games. Scott's speed has allowed him to log four runs as well despite the Cardinals' relatively anemic spring offense. The 23-year-old combined for 95 stolen bases over 132 games between High-A Peoria and Double-A Springfield in 2023, with speed being his No. 1 trait. He also has a good hit tool and reliable plate discipline. Scott will need to be tested at Triple-A Memphis first, but a 2024 debut is not out of the question, while a larger major-league role is expected to come in 2025 -- unless he forces the issue with his bat.

  • Cardinals' Victor Scott: Runs way to Double-A

The Cardinals promoted Scott from High-A Peoria to Double-A Springfield on Monday. The 22-year-old outfielder will make the jump to the Texas League after he terrorized opposing pitchers on the basepaths -- he stole a minor-league-leading 50 bags on 57 attempts -- while holding his own at the plate (.757 OPS, 9.5 BB%, 16.9 K%, 121 wRC+ in 308 plate appearances). Scott will need to continue to get on base at a steady clip against upper-level minor-league pitching in order to profile as a potential everyday player in the majors, but at the very least, his premium speed should allow him to emerge as a useful weapon off the bench.
