  • Rockies' RJ Petit: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Rockies transferred Petit (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Petit will miss the entire 2026 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow last week. Valente Bellozo was selected to the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' RJ Petit: Placed on IL

The Rockies placed Petit (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

The 26-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow Friday, so the move to the injured list was inevitable. Petit will miss the rest of the season in addition to the start of the 2027 campaign.

  • Rockies' RJ Petit: Opts for season-ending surgery

Petit underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

A Rule 5 selection over the winter, Petit is expected to be placed on the 60-day injured list in the coming days. The 26-year-old right-hander will miss the entire 2026 season, and his recovery will likely extend into the first half of the 2027 campaign. Once he's activated from the IL next season, the Rockies will have to decide whether to keep him on the 26-man active roster or offer him back to the Tigers, who had previously held his rights before exposing him to the Rule 5 Draft.

  • Rockies' RJ Petit: Diagnosed with UCL sprain

The Rockies announced Monday that Petit has been diagnosed with a UCL sprain in his right elbow, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

The diagnosis is often a precursor to UCL surgery, but Petit will consult with doctors before making a decision. A Rule 5 pick, Petit could be stashed on the 60-day injured list while he recovers, though the Rockies would still have to follow regular Rule 5 roster guidelines once Petit is off the 60-day IL.

  • Rockies' RJ Petit: Headed to Coors Field

The Rockies selected Petit with the first pick in the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.

Petit, a 6-foot-8 righty from Detroit's farm system, split the 2025 season between Double-A and Triple-A, working primarily as a reliever. The 26-year-old logged a 2.74 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 33:10 K:BB and 51 percent groundball rate in 23 innings at Triple-A, and while he was used in relief, Petit has the stuff to start. He throws multiple mid-90s fastballs, with his four-seamer touching 98 mph, along with a nasty slider and a solid changeup. Now that he's in Colorado, there isn't much fantasy appeal, regardless of role.
