  Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Myers will be on the team's Opening Day roster, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Myers has a minor-league option remaining, but the Mets will retain him on the big-league roster in some capacity rather than keeping him stretched out at Triple-A Syracuse. It would likely take multiple injuries to other starters for Myers to be part of the Mets' rotation, so he should be expected to fill a long-relief role.

• Mets' Tobias Myers: Entering camp as starting pitcher

  Myers said Tuesday that he was told by the Mets to plan on stretching back out as a starting pitcher during spring training, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Acquired from the Brewers last month, Myers' final 14 regular-season appearances last season came out of the bullpen. While the Mets might ultimately decide to deploy him as a reliever, they want Myers to be prepared to start, if needed. The right-hander collected a 3.55 ERA and 38:15 K:BB over 50.2 regular-season frames covering six starts and 16 relief outings for the Brewers in 2025.

While Peralta is the most notable addition to the Mets' pitching staff from the trade, Myers has been productive in his own right, posting a 3.15 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 188.2 frames since reaching the majors in 2024. He worked primarily as a long reliever for the Brewers in 2025 but will likely get a chance to compete for a spot in New York's rotation during spring training.

After returning from Triple-A Nashville with a 3.1-inning start versus the Mariners on Aug. 9, Myers shifted to the bullpen this week. With Milwaukee building up a seven-run lead after seven innings during Wednesday's contest, Myers was called upon to finish out the contest and was able to deliver a couple of drama-free frames. The Brewers have a doubleheader on tap Monday against the Cubs and will need to add a temporary starter to the mix, but Myers may not necessarily be called upon to make a start for either contest of the twin bill. Instead, the Brewers may prefer to keep Myers in a multi-inning relief role and call up Chad Patrick from Triple-A Nashville on Monday to start one of the two contests while Freddy Peralta starts the other.

A full-time member of the Milwaukee rotation for much of last season, Myers has been limited to just eight appearances (five starts) in the majors in 2025, posting a 4.30 ERA and 19:10 K:BB across 23 innings. Myers may be in line for just one start, as the Brewers could get Jacob Misiorowski (tibia) back from the 15-day injured list next week when the team needs a fifth starter again.

As a result of Jose Quintana (shoulder) landing on the injured list, Myers moved back into the rotation after being sent down to Triple-A on Sunday. However, Myers endured his worst outing of the campaign, as the red-hot Twins tagged him for 11 hits, including two doubles and a homer. Myers did manage to avoid walking any batters, but he notched just four whiffs and needed 71 pitches to complete 3.2 frames. It remains to be seen if Myers will get another turn in the rotation, as Aaron Civale (hamstring) could be activated off the injured list as soon as the coming week.

Myers breezed through five scoreless frames before running into trouble in the sixth. He yielded three hits in that inning and departed with the bases loaded and one out, but Milwaukee's bullpen was able to help him escape with just one run on his ledger. The right-hander wasn't overpowering with a modest seven whiffs and two punchouts, but he had excellent control, tossing 58 of 80 pitches for strikes. This was just the fourth outing of the season for Myers, and his third start -- in his previous appearance, he tossed one inning out of the bullpen. He's registered a 3.65 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 8:7 K:BB through 12.1 frames and is lined up face Tampa Bay on the road in his next start.
