Player Outlook
It rarely works out this way, but Max Clark has been almost exactly as advertised in pro ball since the Tigers selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in 2023. He has four plus tools: hit, run, arm, field. That leaves the power, which has always been his weakest tool, but he slugged .439 with a .187 ISO as a 20-year-old at Double-A to finish off the 2025 season, so he's no slouch in that department, and he figures to maximize his power potential due to the quality of his hit tool. All told, Clark slashed .271/.403/.432 with 14 home runs, 19 steals, a 17.6 percent walk rate and a 16.9 percent strikeout rate in 111 games split between High-A and Double-A. The lefty-hitting Clark had a .333 slugging percentage in 105 at-bats against southpaws, but he still got on base at a .406 clip and his defense should keep him in the lineup, although perhaps in the bottom third, against same-handed pitching. Clark stole 19 bases on 21 attempts after stealing 29 bases on 33 attempts in 2024, so while his success rate was stellar, he didn't run as much in 2025 as most would have expected. He has never played at Triple-A, but after logging a 135 wRC+ and 16.7 percent strikeout rate at Double-A, Clark may not need much time at Triple-A before the Tigers hand him the keys in center field.

  • Tigers' Max Clark: Playing well at new level

In 26 games since getting promoted to Double-A Erie, Clark is slashing .274/.371/.481 with four home runs and 10 RBI. Clark has adjusted well so far to the jump up in level, and he's also impacting the game with his speed, as he has six steals in six attempts for Erie. The 20-year-old outfielder is one of the top prospects in baseball, and he has the potential to be a five-tool player at some point in the majors. For now, expect Clark to keep developing at Double-A, with a promotion to Triple-A Toledo a possibility later in the year.

  • Tigers' Max Clark: Moving up to Double-A

The Tigers promoted Clark from High-A West Michigan to Double-A Erie on Sunday. Clark will move up to Double-A after slashing .285/.430/.427 with seven home runs and 12 stolen bases over 68 games with West Michigan. The 20-year-old outfielder will make the jump to Erie along with two of the Tigers' other top prospects in shortstop Kevin McGonigle and catcher Josue Briceno.

  • Tigers' Max Clark: Promoted to High-A

Clark was promoted to High-A West Michigan on Sunday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Clark will take a step up to High-A after he produced a .279 average with six home runs, 56 RBI, 52 runs scored and 25 stolen bases over 276 at-bats in 72 games with Single-A Lakeland this season. The 19-year-old was selected third overall in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, but unlike Paul Skenes, who went first overall, Clark will likely need to slowly work his way up the minor-league levels before making his major-league debut in the distant future.

  • Tigers' Max Clark: Patience, speed for Flying Tigers

Clark is hitting .250 with a .362 OBP, one home run and eight steals in 28 games for Single-A Lakeland. Clark's command of the zone has been as advertised (17.7 K%, 15.4 BB%), but a power breakout has yet to take place. Given his strong hit tool, 70-grade speed and excellent outfield defense, Clark is a safe bet to get to the majors and play regularly, but he may be only a 10-to-15 homer threat at the highest level.
