  • Cubs' Trent Giambrone: Will start at Triple-A

Giambrone will begin the 2022 season at Triple-A Iowa, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports.

Giambrone played in 72 games for the Iowa Cubs last season and slashed .174/.274/.255. Despite the subpar production in the minors, the 28-year-old made his MLB debut in September and appeared in five games for Chicago. Giambrone looks like organizational depth in 2022 and likely won't make a significant fantasy impact.

  • Cubs' Trent Giambrone: Slated to be called up

Giambrone's contract will be selected by the Cubs on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Giambrone has spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Iowa, but he's had a somewhat underwhelming season. The 27-year-old appeared in 72 games and slashed .174/.274/.255 with three homers, 27 runs, 16 RBI and five stolen bases. The Cubs have considered shutting Nico Hoerner (general soreness) down for the remainder of the season, so Giambrone will likely fill in as infield depth and will be available to make his major-league debut late in the regular season.

  • Cubs' Trent Giambrone: Promotion official

The Cubs selected Giambrone's contract from Triple-A Iowa ahead of Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Cubs freed up spots for Giambrone on the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster by placing corner infielder Patrick Wisdom (wrist) on the COVID-19-related injured list. Giambrone is expected to fill a depth role in the Chicago infield over the final five games of the regular season after he slashed .174/.274/.255 across 271 plate appearances at Triple-A.
