  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Optioned by Oakland

Oakland optioned Basso to the Arizona Complex League Athletics on Friday. The move makes room on the A's 28-man roster for the reinstatement of right-hander Ross Stripling (back) from the 15-day injured list. Basso has made four starts for the Athletics in September, going 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB over 19 innings.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Allows five runs in first loss

Basso (1-1) took the loss against Texas on Wednesday, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk over three innings while striking out three. Basso ran into a buzz saw in the first inning, allowing five-consecutive batters to reach to open things up while seeing three early runs come home for Texas. The lefty then got tagged for a two-run homer in the third after giving up a leadoff single to begin the frame and he would not return for the fourth. Basso had gone at least into the fifth inning in three straight starts coming in, allowing three or fewer runs on each occasion. However, Wednesday's five runs allowed marked a season high for the 26-year-old, as did the two long balls he surrendered in the contest.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Fans five in no-decision

Basso came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five. The rookie southpaw blanked Chicago through four innings before faltering in the fifth, getting the hook after 93 pitches (60 strikes). It's the first time in three big-league starts that Basso has failed to complete five frames, and only the second time in six appearances he's been charged with any earned runs at all. He'll take a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB through 19.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rangers.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Receives another start

Basso is listed as the Athletics' scheduled starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Basso will make another turn through the rotation after he was summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas this past week to replace injured starter Osvaldo Bido (wrist). Through his first two MLB starts, Basso has struck out eight while allowing 10 baserunners over 11.1 scoreless innings, though his outings came against two of MLB's weaker offenses in the Tigers and White Sox. The road matchup with the Cubs will represent the 26-year-old lefty's toughest test to date.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Collects first career win

Basso (1-0) was the pitcher of record in Friday's 2-0 win over White Sox, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings while yielding five hits and one walk. He struck out two. Stepping into the rotation as a replacement for Osvaldo Bido (wrist), Basso made the most of the opportunity and secured his first big-league victory with a tidy 77-pitch performance. Basso worked around five singles as the Chicago lineup couldn't manage to get a runner past second base against him. The 26-year-old has performed well over his first 14.2 innings in the majors, pitching to a 1.23 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 0.89 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB. If Basso sticks in the Oakland rotation, he will line up to make his next start against the Cubs on the road next week.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Recalled from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Basso was just sent down Sunday but is back to take the roster spot of the injured Osvaldo Bido (wrist). He could also take Bido's spot in the rotation with a start later this week. Basso went six shutout innings against the Tigers on Saturday in his first major-league start.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Sent down after strong start

The Athletics optioned Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Basso will head to Triple-A after he turned in an impressive first MLB start in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers, taking a no-decision while recording six punchouts over six scoreless frames. Despite the strong showing, the Athletics will swap Basso off the active roster in favor of a fresh bullpen arm in Brandon Bielak, who was called up from Las Vegas on Sunday. Unless the Athletics place another player on a reserve list in a corresponding move, Basso will have to wait another 15 days before potentially rejoining the big club.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Impresses in first career start

Basso did not factor into the decision in Saturday's loss against the Tigers, allowing three hits and one walk in six scoreless innings. He struck out six. Basso looked great in his first starting opportunity in the big leagues. The 26-year-old rookie was making the fourth appearance of his career, but this was the first one to go past two innings. Basso got into trouble in the third inning with runners on second and third with no outs, and he managed to get out of it unscathed. He should be expected to get another turn in the rotation given his strong outing against Detroit.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Slated to start Saturday

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said that Basso will start Saturday's game against the Tigers, Jessica Kleinschmidt of the Oakland Athletics Radio Network reports. Osvaldo Bido would have been lined up to pitch Saturday, but the Athletics look set to skip his turn through the rotation, as Basso will take the hill for the penultimate game of the series, while J.T. Ginn starts Sunday's finale. Basso's previous three appearances with the Athletics came as a reliever from late May through mid-June, but he had been working out of the rotation at Triple-A Las Vegas prior to his call-up Thursday and looks set to operate as a traditional starter Saturday. He covered at least five innings in four of his last five outings with Las Vegas, compiling a 2.84 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB in 25.1 innings during that stretch.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Back to majors

Oakland recalled Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. The 26-year-old southpaw will return to Oakland's roster alongside righty Dany Jimenez as Lucas Erceg gets placed on the 15-day injured list and Tyler Ferguson gets optioned down. Basso has appeared in three games with the Athletics' Triple-A affiliate this year, recording a 14:8 K:BB and 13 earned runs across 12.1 innings.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Sent down to minors

The Athletics optioned Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. Basso was up in the majors for just one day and didn't make an appearance. The left-hander could still be needed in the Athletics rotation at some point given the big club's mounting injury list, but for now he'll report to Las Vegas. Basso was torched for nine earned runs over 2.1 innings in his lone start with Las Vegas this season but has put up a 2.84 ERA and 32:3 K:BB over 25.1 frames with Double-A Midland.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Called up, could enter rotation

The Athletics recalled Basso from Double-A Midland on Tuesday. Despite being lit up for nine earned runs over 2.1 innings in his debut for Triple-A Las Vegas before being moved back to Midland, Basso will make the jump to the majors. He's been far more effective over his six starts for Midland this season, logging a 2.84 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 25.1 innings. Basso will join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for reliever Easton Lucas, but if he's not needed out of the bullpen over the next couple of days, Basso could be called upon to make a spot start this weekend in Kansas City. Alex Wood remains on the active roster but is tending to a shoulder issue that could force him to the injured list, in which case Basso, Mitch Spence or Kyle Muller would likely be the top candidates to fill his spot in the rotation.

  • Athletics' Brady Basso: Optioned to Triple-A

Basso was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Basso appeared in two games with the Athletics this spring, tossing four scoreless frames, allowing one hit and walking a batter while striking out five. He'll look to impress in Las Vegas in order to earn a call-up by Oakland somewhere down the road.
