  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Idle vs. lefty

Lee isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Philadelphia, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The Phillies will send southpaw Cristopher Sanchez out to the bump Thursday, so the lefty-hitting Lee will grab a seat on San Francisco's bench. Luis Matos will fill the resulting void in center field while batting leadoff.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Hits another double with two RBI

Lee went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Phillies. Lee opened the scoring Wednesday with an RBI single in the first inning, and he lofted a sacrifice fly to drive in another run in the fifth. Although 2024 was an injury-ruined first season in the major leagues for Lee, he's slashing an outstanding .338/.395/.647 with three home runs, an MLB-leading 10 doubles, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases through 68 at-bats (17 games).

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Multi-hit effort in defeat

Lee went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored during Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies. Lee delivered a bounce-back performance after going 0-for-5 in Monday's 10-4 win over the Phillies. The 26-year-old doubled in the sixth frame before coming around to score, then he added an RBI single in the eighth. Lee has logged at least one hit in five of his last six appearances, including three home runs, three doubles and a triple. He's slashing an impressive .333/.400/.651 with 13 extra-base hits, 12 RBI, three stolen bases and a 7:12 BB:K across 70 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Homers twice in win

Lee went 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk and four RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Yankees. Lee took Carlos Rodon deep twice, including a three-run shot that gave the Giants a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. The 26-year-old is off to scorching start at the plate, collecting at least one hit in 12 of 14 games with five multi-hit performances. On the season, he's slashing an eye-popping .352/.426/.704 with three long balls, 11 RBI, 16 runs scored and three steals across 61 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Cranks first homer of 2025

Lee went 1-for-2 with two walks and a three-run home run in Friday's 9-1 rain-shortened win over the Yankees. Lee started the Giants' onslaught in the first inning when he smashed a three-run homer off Marcus Stroman to right-center field. Lee drove home three of Giants' five first-inning runs as they successfully chased Stroman early. It was Lee's first homer of the year, and he's started the 2025 campaign slashing .340/.404/.596 with three stolen bases, 13 runs scored, one home run and seven RBI across 49 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Racks up three hits, steal base

Lee went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 win against the Mariners. Lee doubled in his second plate appearance, stole third and came home to score the Giants' first run on a Matt Chapman double. He added another double in the sixth inning and again crossed the plate on another Chapman two-bagger. Lee has been productive at the outset of the season, slashing .321/.387/.500 with five doubles (tied for the MLB lead), nine runs, three RBI and three stolen bases over 31 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: No structural damage in back

Imaging on Lee's back came back negative Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lingering back soreness has plagued Lee since Saturday, but his injury doesn't seem to result from any sort of structural damage. There's still no telling how far away the 26-year-old is from returning to the field, though a long-term absence isn't expected.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Sent for MRI on back

Lee will undergo an MRI on his injured back Monday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Lee was scratched from the Giants' Cactus League lineup Saturday against the Mariners due to the back injury, which has lingered longer than expected. The MRI should reveal the extent of the injury, and more should be known about Lee's availability for Opening Day availability once the results are in.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Scratched Saturday

Lee was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's Cactus League game versus Seattle due to back soreness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants are labeling Lee's injury as minor, and although he won't play Saturday, there's a chance he'll return to the starting nine Sunday. Until then, Grant McCray will start in center field and bat ninth.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Bats third in spring debut

Lee went 1-for-3 in San Francisco's spring training opener Saturday. Lee served as the Giants' leadoff hitter in 2024 prior to suffering a season-ending labrum tear in his left shoulder in May, but manager Bob Melvin said prior to spring training that the 26-year-old could be moved to the three hole for 2025, per Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. Lee operated out of that spot Saturday while LaMonte Wade shifted to the top of the batting order, and Melvin will likely tinker with the lineup throughout camp. Lee appeared in 37 games in 2024 prior to his injury and slashed .262/.310/.331 with two stolen bases, two home runs and eight RBI across 158 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Could bat third this season

Giants manager Bob Melvin said Thursday that Lee might bat third this season, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee was the Giants' primary leadoff hitter when healthy last season but did slide down to the three hole on five occasions when the opposition had a lefty on the mound. It sounds like he could shift down to the three hole on a more regular basis in 2025, with LaMonte Wade moving up to the top of the batting order. Such an arrangement would ding Lee's runs outlook a bit but boost his RBI potential.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: No restrictions in spring training

Giants manager Bob Melvin said Monday that Lee (shoulder) will have no restrictions at the start of spring training, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Lee is right at the end of a six-month timetable that was provided following surgery in June to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. It's not clear what kind of workouts Lee is able to do currently, but it would appear there are no concerns about his readiness for the beginning of camp and Opening Day. The 26-year-old slashed .262/.310/.331 with two home runs and two stolen bases in his first 37 games for the Giants before going under the knife. He's projected to be the Giants' center fielder and likely leadoff man next season.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Moved to 60-day IL

The Giants transferred Lee (shoulder) to the 60-day IL on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Lee will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after dislocating his left shoulder Sunday and suffering a torn labrum. He will finish his first season in the majors with a .262/.310/.331 slash line while hitting two homers and driving in eight RBI across 145 plate appearances. Ryan McKenna was claimed off waivers from Baltimore to fill Lee's spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Undergoing season-ending surgery

Lee is set to undergo season-ending surgery in the next few weeks for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee sustained the injury in the top of the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds, when he crashed into the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch. He was placed on the 10-day IL with what was initially diagnosed as a dislocated left shoulder, but an MRI on Tuesday revealed further structural damage. Lee signed a six-year, $113 million with the Giants in December after seven seasons in the KBO, and he will end his first season in the majors having slashed .262/.310/.331 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI over 158 plate appearances. Luis Matos has started in center field in each game since Lee's injury, and he will reprise that role again Friday against the Rockies.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Placed on IL

The Giants placed Lee on the 10-day IL on Monday due to a left shoulder dislocation. Lee dislocated his left shoulder when he ran into the outfield wall attempting to make a catch in the top of the first inning of Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Reds. Mike Yastrzemski led off Monday against righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto, while Luis Matos was recalled to start in center field.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Exits game with left arm injury

Lee left in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds with a left arm injury, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Lee crashed into the outfield fence attempting to make a catch in the top of the first inning. He fell to the ground and immediately grabbed his left shoulder, and the athletic trainer was holding Lee's left arm as they walked off the field. Lee is coming off a three-game absence due to a sore foot, and it appears the 25-year-old is set to miss even more time with what appears to be a more significant injury. Tyler Fitzgerald has taken over in center field for the rest of Sunday's game.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Sitting out with sore foot

Giants manager Bob Melvin said Lee is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado due to a sore foot which is the result of a foul ball off his leg in Wednesday's contest, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. Lee is receiving treatment and will be reevaluated Friday to see if he's ready to play then. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. Austin Slater is occupying center field in Lee's stead Thursday.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Logs second steal

Lee went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Rays. Lee has two steals over his last three games, and he's hit safely in his last six contests (8-for-27). The outfielder was a little slow to get started in the majors, and he's still hitting just .242 from the leadoff spot. He's added a home run, two steals, four RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles and a 5:6 BB:K through 69 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Swipes first MLB bag

Lee went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Rays. The 25-year-old center fielder created the Giants' only run of the night single-handedly -- Lee led off the third inning with a single, promptly swiped second base, advanced to third on Ben Rortvedt's throwing error and then raced home on a Jacob Waguespack wild pitch. It was Lee's first steal in MLB, but he isn't known as a big threat on the basepaths -- his career high in the KBO was 13 stolen bases, set back in 2019, and he went 6-for-9 on steal attempts with Kiwoon in 2023. Through his first 13 games with San Francisco, Lee is slashing .250/.305/.327 with a homer, four RBI and five runs while hitting leadoff in every contest.

  • Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Back in lineup Wednesday

Lee (hamstring) is starting in center field and batting leadoff for the Giants in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee tweaked his left hamstring a week ago but has been cleared to return to action. The 25-year-old has hit .348/.423/.522 for the Giants this spring and projects as the club's everyday center fielder and leadoff man.
