  • Tigers' Yilber Diaz: Dispatched back to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Diaz to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

He's being sent out in order to make space for the return of Enmanuel De Jesus (personal) from the paternity list. Diaz made one scoreless appearance during his brief stint with the Tigers.

  • Tigers' Yilber Diaz: Recalled from Toledo

The Tigers recalled Diaz from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The Tigers had an extra spot available on their big-league pitching staff after unloading Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize ahead of the trade deadline, so they'll call upon Diaz to provide extra bullpen depth until the team has to fill the empty rotation spots. The 25-year-old righty has posted a 2.38 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 11.1 innings since joining the Tigers organization in June and will likely be limited to low-leverage work as long as he's with Detroit.

  • Tigers' Yilber Diaz: Claimed by Detroit

The Tigers claimed Diaz off waivers from the Diamondbacks on Friday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Diaz was designated for assignment last weekend after he was tagged for seven runs on seven hits and one walk across two-thirds of an inning in last Saturday's loss to the Twins. The 25-year-old still sports a high-90s fastball and potentially plus slider despite major control and command issues, and he'll get a fresh start in Detroit's organization.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Loses 40-man spot

The Diamondbacks designated Diaz for assignment Sunday.

Diaz gave up his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Jose Cabrera, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Reno ahead of his first MLB start Sunday versus the Twins. After making eight appearances for Arizona over the previous two seasons, Diaz turned in a disastrous performance out of the bullpen in his return to the big leagues. He retired just two of the 10 batters he faced in Saturday's 16-8 loss, surrendering seven earned runs on seven hits and one walk before being lifted from the contest.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Coming back to big club

The Diamondbacks recalled Diaz from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Diaz is taking the roster spot vacated by the injured Ryne Nelson (elbow). The 25-year-old Diaz has made a full-time move to the bullpen at Reno this season, posting a 4.50 ERA and 43:21 K:BB over 32 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Cut from big-league camp

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to minor-league camp Thursday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Diaz was touched up for four runs on three hits and two walks over 1.2 innings this spring. The righty shifted to a relief role at Triple-A Reno last season and will have to harness his control (73 walks in 57 minor-league innings in 2025) before the Diamondbacks consider him for their bullpen.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Working in relief at Reno

Diaz allowed two earned runs on five walks over one inning of relief Sunday in his appearance for Triple-A Reno.

Diaz made his second appearance for Reno since rejoining the squad following a stay at the Diamondbacks' facility in Arizona to work on command issues. Judging by Sunday's effort, the right-hander's wayward command was not solved. The 24-year-old had previously started in each of his first eight appearances of the season with Reno, but both of his last two outings have come out of the bullpen. Arizona might not have completely closed the door on developing Diaz as a starter, but he looks like he'll first need to find some success in a relief role before he's considered for a spot in the Reno rotation.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Rejoining Triple-A Reno

Diaz was promoted from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Diaz was transferred from Reno to the ACL back on May 26 as the Diamondbacks hoped to get him back on track following a rough start to the season in the Pacific Coast League, where he turned in a 7.50 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 33:31 K:BB in 30 innings over his first eight starts. He made a lone appearance in the ACL on Saturday, giving up two earned runs across two innings but striking out five and walking none. The performance was enough for Diaz to earn a return to Triple-A, though it's unclear whether he'll slot back into Reno's rotation right away.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Transferred to complex

Diaz was transferred from Triple-A Reno to Arizona's training complex Saturday, Michael McDermott of SI.com reports.

The Diamondbacks want Diaz to get right after walking at least five batters in four consecutive starts. In his most recent start against Sugar Land on May 17, Diaz retired the first batter faced and then walked five straight before being pulled. He showed improved strike-throwing ability in 2024 but has taken a huge step backwards this season. In nine combined appearances between Reno (eight starts) and Arizona (one in relief), Diaz has struck out 34 and walked 34 over 33 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Headed back to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Diaz was called up from Triple-A on Friday and made his 2025 debut against Atlanta, but he was roughed up for three runs on four hits and three walks over three innings while striking out one batter. Arizona selected Scott McGough's contract from Reno in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Called up Friday

The Diamondbacks recalled Diaz from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

The right-hander is one of Arizona's top prospects and will receive a look in the majors after beginning the campaign at the Triple-A level. Diaz has a 5.82 ERA and 19:15 K:BB across five starts with Reno this year but is likely to work out of the bullpen while up with the Diamondbacks.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Sent to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Diaz has tossed 3.2 innings this spring, but he's far down in the Arizona rotation pecking order. The 24-year-old has some of the best stuff among Diamondbacks pitching prospects, but whether or not he'll be able to remain a starting pitcher will depend on his ability to throw enough strikes.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Sent back to Reno

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Diaz made three appearances for the Diamondbacks after being recalled from Triple-A on Sept. 12, during which he allowed three earned runs over 8.1 innings while striking out five batters and walking four. He and Blake Walston will now be sent back to the minors as Alek Thomas comes up from Reno and Ryne Nelson (shoulder) returns from the IL.
