Player Outlook
There's a case for buying low on the 21-year-old Cooper Pratt in dynasty leagues this offseason, as his surface stats at Double-A undersell his long-term potential. He slashed .238/.343/.348 with eight home runs, 31 steals, a 12.7 percent walk rate and a 15.2 percent strikeout rate in 120 games at Double-A. He was unlucky (.267 BABIP) and was the sixth-youngest qualified hitter at Double-A, so his batting average and power output will naturally trend up in the coming years. How much more power is coming is to be determined, but at 6-foot-3 and equipped with a strong hit tool, there are reasons to expect him to unlock 15-20 homer power in time. Org. mate Brice Turang's evolution at the plate is a reminder of the potential for players of this ilk to maximize their power output in their mid-20s. We know Pratt likes to run and makes plenty of contact, and he happens to be the best defensive shortstop of Milwaukee's handful of shortstop prospects. It's not a given that Pratt beats Jesus Made to the majors, but Pratt should be considered the more likely of the two to stick at the six.

Fantasy News

  • Brewers' Cooper Pratt: Power drought at Double-A

Pratt is slashing .239/.331/.351 with four home runs, 13 steals, a 10.1 percent walk rate and a 15.1 percent strikeout rate in 54 games for Double-A Biloxi. Pratt's 27.5 percent hard-hit rate is actually pretty strong, especially for a young shortstop at Double-A, but Pratt has managed just one home run while hitting .223 over his last 36 games. Pratt is the fifth-youngest qualified hitter at Double-A, as he won't turn 21 until August. Given the strength of his hit tool and the fact he isn't an extreme groundball hitter (40.6 GB% at Double-A), Pratt should access more game power as he adds strength to his 6-foot-3, 206-pound frame.

The Brewers promoted Pratt from Single-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin on Monday. The 19-year-old made his debut for Wisconsin in Tuesday's 14-9 loss to South Bend, starting at shortstop while going 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI. One of Milwaukee's top lower-level prospects, Pratt earned the promotion after slashing .295/.394/.395 with three home runs and 25 steals across 310 plate appearances for Carolina.

  • Brewers' Cooper Pratt: Returns from Single-A IL

Single-A Carolina reinstated Pratt from its 7-day injured list Wednesday. Per Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com, Pratt had been out of commission since April 12 due to a broken pinkie finger. Before sustaining the injury, Pratt had gotten off to a hot start to the season for Carolina, slashing .318/.407/.455 with two extra-base hits (one triple, one double) and three stolen bases in six games.
