  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Taking Wednesday off

Fortes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. Fortes will take a seat after he started at catcher in each of Miami's last three contests while going 2-for-11 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Jhonny Pereda will get a turn behind the plate in Fortes' stead.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Receiving Friday off

Fortes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Fortes started the previous four games but will take a seat after going 7-for-14 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs during that stretch. Jhonny Pereda will step in behind the plate to catch for Edward Cabrera.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Breaks homer drought

Fortes went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly during Monday's 9-6 loss to the Diamondbacks. Fortes' streak of at-bats without a home run came was snapped at 139 when the catcher tagged Brandon Pfaadt for a solo shot in the third inning. In three games since being activated from the injured list, Fortes is 3-for-9 with three RBI. He's slashing .223/.247/.308 with three home runs across 240 plate appearances this season.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Activated from IL

The Marlins activated Fortes (quadricep) from the 10-day injured list Friday. Fortes has fully recovered from a right quadriceps strain and will reclaim his spot on the active roster, sending Jhonny Pereda back to Triple-A Jacksonville. While he'll be active for Friday's game against the Mets, Fortes isn't part of the starting lineup.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Shelved with quad strain

The Marlins placed Fortes on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right quadriceps strain. Miami recalled Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and will likely have him operate as the No. 2 option at catcher behind Ali Sanchez, who will make a second straight start Wednesday in place of Fortes. The 27-year-old Fortes had slashed .219/.246/.288 with two home runs, 18 RBI and 16 runs in 78 games before apparently suffering the injury at some point during his most recent start in Monday's 10-3 loss to the Reds.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Held out of lineup again Wednesday

Fortes (quadricep) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. Fortes will miss a second straight start after exiting Monday's 10-3 loss with a tight quad. He was available off the bench Tuesday and presumably will be again Wednesday. Ali Sanchez will draw another start at catcher for the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Available off bench Tuesday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds due to quadriceps tightness but will be available off the bench, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Fortes departed Monday's contest due to the injury and was limited to running at 75 percent Tuesday. It remains to be seen if a stint on the injured list will be necessary. Ali Sanchez is working behind the plate and batting ninth.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Resting up Wednesday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. Fortes will get a breather for the day game after he caught eight innings of Tuesday's 9-3 loss while going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Ali Sanchez will spell Fortes behind the plate.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Loses work after three-error game

Fortes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. Though Fortes has been more productive at the plate in July with a .282/.300/.333 slash line after a rough first three months of the season, his grasp on the primary catcher gig appears to have loosened after he had a game to forget in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Mets. Fortes committed three throwing errors in the win, prompting manager Skip Schumaker to send him to the bench Wednesday for the third game in a row. Ali Sanchez will once again start behind the dish.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Out of Friday's lineup

Fortes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies. Fortes will cede catching duties to Ali Sanchez as the Marlins take on southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Idle Sunday

Fortes isn't in the Marlins' lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. With Fortes owning just a .422 OPS on the season, the Marlins will opt to start Ali Sanchez on Sunday in an effort to find any sort of offensive production from behind the plate.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Fortes is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. Fortes has started 11 of Miami's first 14 games in June despite going 3-for-31 during that stretch, but he'll take a seat for Tuesday's contest. Christian Bethancourt will work behind the plate and bat ninth in his place.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Swats second homer

Fortes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a three-run home run and two additional runs scored in Friday's 8-0 romp over the Mets. The catcher turned on a Christian Scott sweeper up in the zone and drove it over the wall in left-center field to cap a four-run second inning for the Marlins. It was only Fortes' second homer of the season, and while he tied his career high by reaching base four times in the victory, his .159/.198/.256 slash line on the season keeps him far from fantasy consideration. It's his work behind the plate that's kept him in the lineup -- Miami's produced three straight shutouts, and Fortes has caught all of them.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Sitting again Monday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers. Fortes will sit for the second day in a row and the third time in four games while Christian Bethancourt gets another turn behind the plate. The Marlins have gotten minimal production from both of their catchers for most of the season, but Bethancourt has shown some semblance of life at the dish of late, going 6-for-13 with two doubles over his last four games. That may be enough to give him the edge on playing time for now over Fortes, who has turned in a .345 OPS over 78 plate appearances on the season.

  • Marlins' Nick Fortes: Resting Friday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Philadelphia, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Fortes will cede backstop duties to Christian Bethancourt. In May, Fortes is batting 2-for-14 (.143) with a solo home run.

Fortes isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday against the Nationals. Fortes will take a seat Saturday after going 1-for-3 with an RBI during Friday's win in the series opener. Christian Bethancourt will instead get the nod behind the dish and bat ninth.
