White Sox's Davis Martin: Struggles with control Wednesday
Martin allowed two runs on three hits and five walks while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Wednesday.
Martin walked three batters in the first inning but escaped without allowing run. His lack of control caught up with him in the fourth, however, as he allowed a two-out walk followed by a hit-by-pitch and an infield single to load the bases and force his exit. Martin was then charged with two runs when Michael Soroka came on in relief and allowed a two-run single to Taylor Ward. It was the second time in his final three starts that Martin was unable to complete four frames, and he gave up 10 runs across 11.2 innings during that stretch.

White Sox's Davis Martin: No run support in loss
Martin (0-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Angels, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.
Martin retired the first six batters he faced but was tagged for a run in each of the next three innings while allowing multiple base hits in each of those innings as well. His seven hits allowed tied a season-worst mark and he's now allowed at least three runs in three of his past four starts. Martin owns a 4.27 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB in 46.1 innings this season and lines up for a rematch against the Angels next week.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Falls to 0-4
Martin (0-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Guardians, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk over three innings. He struck out four.
Martin gave up a pair of runs in the first inning before the Guardians put up three in the third. While the 27-year-old Martin has yet to earn a win this year, he'd been pitching well prior to Wednesday, posting a 3.12 ERA in his previous five outings (26 innings). His ERA now sits at 4.14 on the season with a 1.35 WHIP and 39:16 K:BB across 41.1 innings. Martin's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Angels next week in his next start.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Tosses six frames
Martin yielded a run on three hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out three during a loss to Boston.
Martin made his eighth appearance of the year for the White Sox and delivered his second quality start. He forced 11 whiffs, including four each via his cutter and slider. He didn't face much trouble outside of the fourth inning, when the Red Sox scored a run after he hit two straight batters with pitches to open the frame. Martin lowered his ERA to 3.29 with a 35:15 K:BB over 38.1 innings. He's currently projected to face the Guardians at home next week.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Falters early in defeat
Martin (0-3) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six batters over five innings.
Martin had a rough first inning, giving up two homers resulting in three runs. He settled down after that and yielded just one more run over the remainder of his outing, but Chicago's offense never put him in position to be taken off the hook. Martin racked up an impressive 19 swinging strikes and set a season high with six punchouts. He's yet to win a game this season but has been a serviceable starting option for the White Sox, posting a 3.62 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB over 32.1 innings.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Tames Tigers in no-decision
Martin allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Detroit on Monday.
Martin held Detroit scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Tigers pushed across a run on a trio of singles. That was the final frame for the right-hander, and he was in line for the victory until Chicago's bullpen collapsed in the seventh. Martin continued a solid stretch of starts -- over his past four outings, he's given up just four earned runs while posting an 18:7 K:BB over 20 innings. He's tentatively lined up to face the Mets at home in his next start.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Takes loss to Giants
Martin (0-2) took the loss to the Giants on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five in 4.1 innings.
Martin started out hot by striking out the side in the first inning, but walks would come back to hurt him in the third and fifth innings. Martin's issued multiple walks in four of five outings this season, but he's showing decent swing-and-miss stuff, striking out five batters in three of his four starts in August. The 27-year-old has held his own after missing all of last year due to Tommy John surgery, posting a 3.22 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB in 22.1 innings. He lines up to face the Tigers at home to begin next week.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Takes no-decision versus Yankees
Martin allowed a run on four hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings to take a no-decision versus the Yankees on Wednesday.
Martin got his one misstep out of the way early, allowing a solo home run to the red-hot Juan Soto in the first inning. Martin exited with the lead, but the White Sox's bullpen imploded in the seventh and eighth innings. Through four outings (three starts), Martin has pitched to a 3.00 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB across 18 innings. The walk rate is likely to remain a concern, and pitching for the White Sox won't put him in line for many wins. He's tentatively projected for a road start in San Francisco his next time out.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Six shutout innings
Martin came away with a no-decision Wednesday against the Athletics, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four in six scoreless innings.
Martin cruised through six innings on just 82 pitches, even bringing a no-hitter into the fifth inning before an Abraham Toro single broke up the bid. Martin exited the game leading 2-0 and in line for the win, but Touki Toussaint promptly gave up three runs in the seventh, resulting in a no-decision for Martin. The 27-year-old Martin has taken over Erick Fedde's rotation spot since the trade deadline and will continue to make starts for the White Sox, especially with Drew Thorpe (flexor) out for the foreseeable future. Martin owns a 3.65 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB across 12.1 innings (two starts) this season. His next start is scheduled to come next week against the Yankees.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Clobbered in loss
Martin (0-1) took the loss Friday against the Twins, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out five.
The Chicago right-hander was unable to prevent the White Sox's 18th consecutive loss, as he stumbled out the gate by allowing a 409-foot, two-run homer to Royce Lewis in the first inning. Lewis had Martin's number in this outing, as the Minnesota slugger later laced a two-run double in the third. Despite the rough 75-pitch performance, Martin should remain the White Sox rotation as Drew Thorpe (right flexor strain) was placed on the injured list Friday. He lines up to make his next start against the Athletics in Oakland next week.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Sliding into rotation
Martin will move into the White Sox's starting rotation after Erick Fedde was traded to the Cardinals on Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Martin made a 2.2-inning relief appearance Saturday versus the Mariners in what was his first outing at the big-league level since he had Tommy John surgery in May 2023. He was a starter prior to the elbow operation, and he made seven starts at Triple-A Charlotte before being called up Saturday, maxing out at four innings and 64 pitches. The White Sox will be careful with Martin's workload down the stretch, but he will be auditioning for a spot in the 2025 rotation.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Summoned to big leagues
The White Sox recalled Martin from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
Southpaw Sammy Peralta was optioned to Charlotte. Martin started the season on the 60-day injured list as he worked his way back from May 2023 Tommy John surgery. Martin threw four scoreless innings in his last rehab start July 20, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out four. Martin will likely work out the White Sox's bullpen as he eases back into major-league action, though he could fill in as a spot starter in the second half of the regular season.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Off IL, starting at Triple-A
Martin (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday and will start for Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Martin underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2023 but has completed his lengthy rehab process and will join Charlotte's starting rotation. The 27-year-old was deployed as a starter in nine of his 14 appearances with the White Sox last season and he's still on the team's 40-man roster, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him called up during the second half of 2024.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Begins rehab assignment
Martin (elbow) began a rehab assignment with the White Sox's rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Friday, allowing one run with a 5:1 K:BB over two innings.
Martin had Tommy John surgery last May and is currently on Triple-A Charlotte's 60-day injured list. He will eventually move up to Charlotte once the White Sox decide he's fully stretched back out and ready to assume a spot in the Triple-A rotation. Martin possesses a spot on the 40-man roster and could be an option to join the major-league club at some point after the All-Star break.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Optioned to Triple-A
Martin (elbow) was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday
Martin underwent Tommy John surgery last May and was never going to be an option for the White Sox to begin the season. The 27-year-old has resumed throwing off a mound and will continue building up his arm before hopefully starting a minor-league rehab assignment sometime during the first half.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Throws another bullpen session
Martin (elbow) threw his second bullpen session of the spring Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Martin threw 20 fastballs in the session and sat in the 84-to-86 mile-per-hour range. He will incorporate changeups during his next bullpen session next Monday and before the end of spring will progress to throwing off the mound twice per week. The 27-year-old is unlikely to be an option for the White Sox before the second half.
