  • Rockies' Eiberson Castellano: Jettisoned to minors

The Rockies optioned Castellano to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. Castellano picked up a save in Sunday's 23-9 blowout win over the Athletics with three scoreless frames in his major-league debut. He's clearing off the roster to make room for the return of Victor Vodnik (elbow) from the injured list. Castellano is likely to be used as a starting pitcher and/or bulk reliever at Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Eiberson Castellano: Picks up save in big-league debut

Castellano allowed four hits and hit a batter while striking out two and walking none over three scoreless innings to earn the save in Sunday's 23-9 win over the Athletics. Castellano's big-league debut saw him mop up the last three innings of a blowout win to preserve the rest of the Rockies' bullpen. The 25-year-old has had a strong effort in the minors this season, posting a 2.72 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 53:27 K:BB across 53 innings over 10 starts for Double-A Hartford. He also made a scoreless six-inning relief appearance at Triple-A Albuquerque before his call-up to the majors Saturday. Castellano threw 35 pitches (24 strikes) in Sunday's outing, so he may be able to stick around the big club rather than being immediately optioned out again. He's in the bullpen for now, but if he thrives in a multi-inning role, he could be a candidate for spot starts later in the year.

  • Rockies' Eiberson Castellano: Contract selected

The Rockies selected Castellano's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. Castellano has spent most of the season at Double-A Hartford, though he made his last appearance at Albuquerque and pitched six shutout innings while striking out seven batters and allowing three men to reach base. The 25-year-old will now get a chance to show what he can do in the majors while presumably working in a long-relief role. Jeff Criswell was optioned to Triple-A to make room for Castellano on the active roster, and Valente Bellozo was outrighted to Albuquerque to free up a 40-man spot.

  • Phillies' Eiberson Castellano: Shut down with injury again

Double-A Reading placed Castellano on its 7-day injured list Saturday due to an undisclosed injury. After about a three-week stay on the shelf due to another unspecified injury, Castellano was activated from Reading's IL last Thursday. He made a relief appearance in a 5-4 loss to Erie that same day and gave up three earned runs on two hits and two walks over one inning. It's unclear if Castellano aggravated the previous injury or suffered a new one in that relief appearance, but Reading moved quickly to deactivate the 24-year-old righty once again. Castellano is without a clear timeline to return to action.

  • Phillies' Eiberson Castellano: Shelved at Double-A

Double-A Reading placed Castellano on its 7-day injured list May 4 due to an unspecified injury. A Rule 5 selection by the Twins in December, Castellano was returned to the Phillies after Minnesota was unwilling to include the 24-year-old righty on its Opening Day roster coming out of spring training. Castellano began the season in Reading, where he posted a 3.60 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 16:2 K:BB in 15 innings while working in a swingman role before he was shut down with the injury.

  • Twins' Eiberson Castellano: Fails to make roster

The Twins informed Castellano that he won't make the Opening Day roster Sunday, so the club must place him on waivers, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. The 23-year-old was plucked from the Phillies during the Rule 5 Draft in December but struggled to a 7.59 ERA and 13:10 K:BB over 10.2 innings during spring training. Castellano will be offered back to Philadelphia if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
