  • Rays' Austin Overn: Back in action for Double-A club

Overn (undisclosed) has gone 4-for-9 with a home run, a double, three walks, two stolen bases, three RBI and two runs in two games for Double-A Montgomery since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. After spending just over a month on the shelf due to the unspecified issue, Overn has hit the ground running since rejoining the Montgomery lineup. Acquired from the Orioles over the winter as part of the prospect haul the Rays received in the Shane Baz trade, Overn has enjoyed an outstanding first season in the organization. Through 40 games with Montgomery, Overn is slashing .317/.385/.553 with eight home runs and 30 steals.

  • Rays' Austin Overn: Missing in action

Double-A Montgomery placed Overn on the 7-day injured list May 27 with an undisclosed injury. Overn, who last played May 23, has had an extreme season both good and bad, as he has a .309/.375/.533 slash line with seven homers and 28 steals in 38 games despite a 32.5 percent strikeout rate. One of the better athletes in the upper minors, Overn's hit tool won't be a strength and could be poor enough that it prevents him from playing regularly at the highest level.

  • Rays' Austin Overn: Shipped to Rays

The Rays acquired Overn, Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine and Michael Forret from the Orioles on Friday in exchange for Shane Baz, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. It's a big haul for Tampa Bay, but it's a seller's market and Baz is under team control for three more seasons. Overn split last season between High-A and Double-A, and he posted a .753 OPS across both levels while totaling 13 home runs and 63 stolen bases in 114 games.

  • Orioles' Austin Overn: Running wild at Double-A

Overn is hitting .277 with three home runs and 18 steals in 22 games for Double-A Chesapeake. Overn is a freak athlete who also played wide receiver at USC as a freshman before focusing on baseball from 2023 onward. He slashed .242/.367/.386 with eight home runs and 43 steals in 84 games for High-A Aberdeen before getting promoted to Double-A on Aug. 5. He has been much more aggressive since getting to Double-A, with his walk rate dipping from 15.5 percent to 5.8 percent and his swing rate jumping from 41 percent to 53.8 percent. Overn has 11 home runs and a .359 on-base percentage in 106 games this season, and it's possible he trends up as a hitter over the next year or two as he gets further removed from his two-sport days. He has the upside of a strong-side platoon outfielder who hits 10-15 home runs with 30-plus steals.
