Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Expected to play Sunday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Saturday that he expects Kim (hand) to be back in the lineup for Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Kim injured his left hand against Team Australia on March 8 while playing for Team Korea during the World Baseball Classic. The good news for Kim is that the injury isn't considered a long-term issue, and if he is able to return to the lineup Sunday, then there would be no concern of him being sidelined for the start of the 2026 season. Kim appeared in 71 regular-season games for the Dodgers in 2025, finishing with a .699 OPS with 13 steals (on 14 attempts), three home runs and 17 RBI over 170 plate appearances. Kim is projected to make the Dodgers' Opening Day roster as a utility man.

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Hand injury deemed not concerning
Kim, who hurt his left hand March 8 while playing for Team Korea during the World Baseball Classic, doesn't seem to be dealing with a serious injury, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.
Kim suffered the injury while stealing a base and missed Korea's subsequent contest against Australia. However, the infielder/outfielder seems to be fine. Korea's next game takes place Friday against the Dominican Republic, so it bears monitoring whether Kim will be in the lineup for that contest.

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Hurts hand during WBC
Kim suffered a left hand injury Sunday while with Team Korea at the World Baseball Classic and didn't play in Monday's 7-2 win over Team Australia, Matthew Moreno of SI.com reports.
Kim's injury happened while he was stealing a base against Team Chinese Taipei on Sunday. He sported a thin wrap around his left hand Monday while sitting out Korea's victory against Australia, per Dodgers Nation, but to this point there's been no word on the exact nature or severity of the injury. This may just end up being a minor issue, and Kim is still at least several days away from returning to the Dodgers as Korea has already advanced to the quarterfinals of the WBC, but if the injury lingers, it could impact Kim's bid to open the regular season as Los Angeles' starter at second base while Tommy Edman continues his recovery from ankle surgery.

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Impressing in Cactus League
Kim went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Thursday in a Cactus League win over the White Sox.
Kim belted his first homer of the spring when he went deep to right field in the sixth inning. Overall, the 27-year-old is slashing a robust .462/.462/.692 with five RBI, three runs and two stolen bases in exhibition play. He has also struck out five times over 13 at-bats, but overall Kim is making a strong impression as he bids to begin the campaign as Los Angeles' starting second baseman while Tommy Edman completes his recovery from offseason ankle surgery. Alex Freeland and Miguel Rojas are the other candidates for the Opening Day second-base job, though two (or all three) of the trio may ultimately split time at the keystone if the Dodgers decide not to give the role to one player outright.

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Competing for Opening Day job at 2B
Kim, Alex Freeland and Miguel Rojas were named by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts as candidates to start at second base to begin the regular season with Tommy Edman (ankle) slated to be placed on the injured list, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
The Dodgers don't have many positional battles this spring, but the second-base job appears to be pretty wide open due to Edman's ongoing recovery. Kim has also been tabbed to get time in center field behind Andy Pages, according to Roberts, but the second-year major-leaguer has a big opportunity to earn a regular spot in the lineup while Edman is out. It sounds like the winner of the positional battle will be determined by how each candidate performs during spring training, so Kim's Cactus League showing is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Clubs third long ball
Kim went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 6-1 win at Seattle.
The Los Angeles rookie opened the contest's scoring with a 409-foot, two-run shot off Mariners starter Bryce Miller in the second. With the home run, Kim snapped a 49-game stretch dating back to May 31 without a round tripper. The 26-year-old concludes his first season with a .281/.315/.388 slash line, 13 steals, 19 runs scored and 17 RBI in 169 total plate appearances.

Saturday marks the fourth straight game that will begin with Kim on the bench, as he's been conceding starts at the keystone to Miguel Rojas and Tommy Edman. Kim looks as though he'll have to settle for a regular reserve role with the recent return of Edman from the injured list creating a logjam in the infield.

Back to full health after he had been on the shelf since July 28 due to shoulder bursitis, Kim will join the Dodgers following a nine-appearance rehab assignment in which he slashed .324/.368./412 with a 3:10 BB:K and a stolen base. During his time in the majors this season, Kim has seen playing time at second base, shortstop and center field, but he saw three starts in left field during his rehab assignment and could emerge as an option at the position with the Dodgers in September. Michael Conforto has served as Los Angeles' primary left fielder this season, but he's mustered a lowly .628 OPS through 414 plate appearances.

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Likely to return next week
Kim (shoulder) is slated to be activated off the injured list when rosters expand next week, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kim began a minor-league rehab assignment Aug. 21 and has fared fine so far, slashing .273/.292/.273 through six games. Of note, he recently began playing left field with Triple-A Oklahoma City, which may be a sign that the Dodgers plan to use him at that position to some extent when he returns to the big club. By waiting until after rosters expand to activate Kim, Los Angeles won't need to clear room for him with another transaction.

Kim (shoulder) went 2-for-3 with a run in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. He started in left field and played five innings, per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register.
Thursday marked Kim's first game action since July 28 as the rookie utility player progresses toward a return from left shoulder bursitis. Kim hadn't played left field prior to Thursday, but the Dodgers have gotten poor production from Michael Conforto (.618 OPS) as the primary option at the position. Los Angeles acquired Alex Call at the trade deadline and has been giving him some starts in left, but if Kim can handle the position defensively, he could get opportunities there after he's activated from the IL.

Roberts confirmed that Kim would be ready to test out his left shoulder in a game setting after the rookie was able to take live batting practice Sunday without issue. Kim, who has been on the injured list since July 29 while recovering from shoulder bursitis, could be ready to rejoin the Dodgers at some point in the final week of August if all goes well during his rehab assignment. Once he's activated from the IL, Kim could settle in as the Dodgers' primary second baseman in the short term, as Tommy Edman (ankle) isn't expected to be ready to return to action until at least early September.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Kim (shoulder) has been taking part in defensive work and hitting in the batting cage, Sebastian Abdon Ibarra of DodgerBlue.com. "Hyeseong is doing well. He took some swings in the cage. I think on Friday we'll get him in a hitting group," Roberts said. "So he's coming along. I think he says he's almost pain-free, so hopefully we'll get him back here soon."
Kim visibly struggled while swinging due to left shoulder bursitis and went 3-for-24 at the plate in his final nine games prior to landing on the injured list July 29. According to MLB.com, the rookie infielder resumed swinging a bat, taking grounders and running Monday, so his stay on the injured list may not necessarily be a lengthy one.

According to Roberts, Kim has been dealing with the injury for about a week. Roberts suggested that the injury has been impacting the rookie infielder at the plate, but despite looking uncomfortable at the dish at times Saturday, Kim played eight innings and went 2-for-3. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the ninth, but that may not have been a result of the injury, as Mookie Betts -- who arrived late to the stadium after dealing with a personal issue -- was summoned to bat as the tying run with two outs.
