  • Tigers' Franyerber Montilla: Suffers season-ending knee injury

Single-A Lakeland placed Montilla (knee) on its full-season injured list June 20.

Montilla suffered a torn ACL last July and required season-ending surgery, but he made a full recovery and was cleared to return to action with Lakeland on June 16 following a two-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. In a cruel twist of fate, Montilla was forced out of his first game with Lakeland with another knee injury that will spell an end to his season. The Tigers haven't relayed whether Montilla is dealing with another ACL tear, or whether the injury is to the same knee he hurt last summer.

  • Tigers' Franyerber Montilla: Injures knee in Single-A debut

Montilla walked in his lone plate appearance Tuesday with Single-A Lakeland before exiting the game in the second inning with an apparent knee injury, Chris Brown of TigersMLReport.com reports.

After sustaining a torn ACL and undergoing season-ending surgery last July, Montilla opened the 2026 campaign on Lakeland's 7-day injured list. He was activated from the IL on Tuesday after completing a two-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, only to have his debut with Lakeland cut short by another knee injury, which he suffered while attempting to catch a throw to second base. While the severity of his latest injury isn't yet known, the 21-year-old needed to be carted off the field and will most likely be headed back to the IL.

  • Tigers' Franyerber Montilla: Done for season with ACL tear

Single-A Lakeland placed Montilla on its full-season injured list Monday after he recently sustained a torn ACL, Lynn G. Henning of The Detroit News reports.

Lenning relays that Montilla suffered the injury in an infield collision, resulting in the 20-year-old's placement on Lakeland's 7-day IL on July 21. Before getting hurt, Montilla slashed .270/.367/.390 with three home runs and 29 stolen bases in 300 plate appearances for Lakeland on the season. Since he'll require surgery to address the torn ligament in his knee, Montilla's absence is likely to stretch into the 2026 season.
