  • Brewers' Luis Pena: Moving up to High-A

The Brewers will promote Pena from Single-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin this week, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Pena will head to the Midwest League after slashing .308/.375/.469 with six home runs and 41 stolen bases across 309 plate appearances for Carolina. The 18-year-old has split time between shortstop and third base this season along with fellow top prospect Jesus Made, who is also set to move up to High-A this week. Pena and Made should continue to play regularly alongside one another on the left side of the Wisconsin infield for the rest of the season.

  • Brewers' Luis Pena: Red hot post-concussion

Pena is hitting .407 with two home runs, three steals and a 16.7 percent strikeout rate in seven games since being activated off the concussion IL for Single-A Carolina on May 28.

Pena was excellent before the concussion, but he's been even better since a 10-day absence. He shares the left side of the infield with Jesus Made, so Pena has split time between shortstop and third base. He could also end up at second base or could try his hand at center field. On the season, the 18-year-old is slashing .344/.407/.563 with five home runs, 24 steals and a 10.3 percent strikeout rate in 32 games.

  • Brewers' Luis Pena: Out with concussion

Single-A Carolina placed Pena on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to a concussion, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The 18-year-old skipped complex ball and joined Single-A Carolina for his first taste of minor-league action this year, and he's raked in his first 25 games with three homers, 21 steals and a .327/.400/.505 slash line. Pena will be out for at least the next week due to the concussion, but once healthy, it may not be long before he's moved up to High-A Wisconsin given his strong performance.

  • Brewers' Luis Pena: Skipping complex ball

Pena will begin the season with Single-A Carolina, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.

It was fully anticipated that Jesus Made would skip over the Arizona Complex League and start the year at Single-A, and it's notable that the Brewers also opted to send Pena directly to the Mudcats. Pena, an 18-year-old shortstop with plus-plus speed, hit .393 with one home run and 39 steals in 44 games in the Dominican Summer League. If he can access a bit more pop, he could be a big riser this season on prospect rankings.
