Harbin (lat) re-signed with the Pirates on a minor-league deal Saturday.
Pittsburgh added Harbin to its 40-man roster over the winter, but he has yet to pitch this season after suffering a right lat strain early in spring training. The Pirates designated Harbin for assignment in late April and then released him once he cleared waivers, but the right-handed reliever found his way back to the organization and will pitch out of the Triple-A Indianapolis bullpen once he's back to full health.

The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Chris Devenski, who was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis. Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Monday that Harbin has been diagnosed with a lat injury and will be shut down from throwing for six weeks before being re-evaluated, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Harbin suffered an injury to his teres major muscle early in camp and won't have the chance to compete for a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen this spring. The Pirates added the 24-year-old right-hander to the 40-man roster over the winter after he turned in a 4.69 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 92:46 K:BB in 63.1 innings between three minor-league levels in 2025. Harbin began 2025 at High-A Greensboro but managed to reach Triple-A Indianapolis by season's end, and he'll now begin the offseason by securing a place on Pittsburgh's 40-man roster. The 24-year-old righty figures to have an outside chance to make the Pirates' Opening Day roster, but considering he gave up 17 earned runs in just 13.1 innings at Indianapolis, the team may look to get him more reps in Triple-A before letting him make his MLB debut.

Harbin was promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Anthony Murphy of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Harbin has posted a 3.66 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 19.2 innings in 14 appearances with Double-A Altoona this season. The right-hander boasts a fastball that can reach triple-digits, and if he can further develop his control, there's no reason Harbin can't be a valuable member of the Pirates' bullpen down the road.
