  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Free of restrictions at camp

Bishop (elbow) reported to spring training this week without any restrictions, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 2019 first-round pick is back to full health after missing the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Once seen as one of the top hitting prospects in the organization, Bishop's star has faded while a slew of injuries have thus far limited him to 134 minor-league games through his first five seasons in the professional ranks. The 25-year-old outfielder still has yet to play above the High-A level, though he could report to Double-A Richmond to open the 2024 campaign if he makes it out of spring training with his health intact.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Goes on 60-day IL

Double-A Richmond placed Bishop (elbow) on its 60-day injured list Thursday. The transaction comes after Bishop underwent season-ending surgery last Tuesday to repair the UCL in his right elbow. The 2019 first-round pick will turn 25 years old in June and has appeared in just 134 total minor-league games thus far in his five-year professional career due to a slew of injuries.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Needs season-ending elbow surgery

Bishop said he underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair the UCL in his right elbow, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Bishop has appeared in only 134 total minor-league games since the Giants selected him with the 10th overall pick in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft. After succumbing to another injury, Bishop is stuck with yet another lost campaign. The 24-year-old outfielder -- who turns 25 this June -- hasn't managed to rise above High-A ball due in no small part to the physical setbacks.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Set for elbow surgery

Bishop is expected to have elbow surgery within the next week, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports. Bishop has played just 103 games over the last two seasons, so this is a disappointing setback for the outfielder. It's unclear if his recovery timeline will allow him to come back some time in the second half of the campaign, but he's expected to miss multiple months.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Rehabbing in Complex League

Bishop, who has been on High-A Eugene's 7-day injured list since July 18 due to an unspecified issue, went 0-for-2 while starting in center field Monday in the first game of his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Before landing on the shelf, Bishop had racked up 19 stolen bases in 21 attempts for Eugene, but he struggled at the plate, managing a .236/.323/.433 slash line across 324 plate appearances. He'll likely play at least a couple more games in the ACL before rejoining Eugene.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Taking part in Fall League

Bishop (undisclosed) is among the Giants prospects who will take part in the upcoming Arizona Fall League, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. San Francisco's decision to send Bishop to the AFL implies that the organization feels he's healthy again after injuries limited him to 16 total games between the High-A, Low-A and rookie-ball levels in 2021. Bishop finished the campaign on Low-A San Jose's 7-day injured list, but he'll look to make up for some of the development time he lost this season in the AFL. Expect Bishop to report back to High-A to open 2022.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Placed on 7-day IL

Bishop (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day injured list Monday at Low-A San Jose, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports. The 23-year-old has had a frustrating season -- Bishop has been limited to 16 minor-league games due to injuries. He's slashing .133/.286/.178 with zero home runs, one stolen base and 21:8 K:BB in 45 at-bats. Bishop has not played above High-A and this lost developmental time has hurt his prospect stock.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Activated from IL

The Giants activated Bishop (shoulder) from High-A Eugene's 7-day injured list Wednesday and assigned him to Low-A San Jose. Bishop began the season at High-A and appeared in three games for Eugene before being shut down with a strained left shoulder in early May, and then experiencing a setback in June. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in late July, but he struggled to return to form over 11 games, posting a .512 OPS. Though he's ostensibly healthy again, Bishop will have to prove he can handle Low-A pitching before he gets bumped up to Eugene.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Beginning rehab assignment

Bishop (shoulder) reported to the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, GiantsProspects.com reports. Bishop has been sidelined at High-A Eugene since May 6 with a strained left shoulder, but the 23-year-old finally looks to be nearing the finish line in his recovery from the injury. Because of his extended shutdown, Bishop may require several games in the ACL before Eugene activates him. He went 2-for-12 over three games at High-A prior to straining his shoulder.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Playing in scrimmage

Bishop (ankle) is included in the Giants' lineup Wednesday for a scrimmage versus the Athletics at the organization's alternate site in Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Bishop dealt with a sore ankle late in spring training, but he looks to be healthy again as he resumes preparation for the minor-league season. The Giants' 2019 first-round pick will likely report to Low-A San Jose or High-A Eugene once the season begins.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Battling sore ankle

Bishop has been slowed by ankle soreness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. As long as the issue remains nothing worse than soreness, it shouldn't significantly hold back Bishop's preparation for Opening Day. He won't be spending that day on the major-league roster, however, as he's played just 32 career professional games and has yet to reach full-season ball.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Joining major-league camp

Bishop received an invitation Friday to big-league camp. Bishop has potential, but he's unlikely to be auditioning for an Opening Day roster spot this spring. The 10th overall pick in the 2019 draft, Bishop has played in just 32 professional games during his career, as the canceled minor-league season prevented him from climbing up the ladder in 2020.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Clear to report

Bishop (illness) cleared the league's COVID-19 protocols and will report to the Giants' alternate training site, Katie Woo of MiLB.com reports. The 22-year-old tested positive for coronavirus in late June and was previously unable to gain full clearance to join the 60-man pool. Bishop is unlikely to see the majors this season with only 32 games in rookie ball under his belt, but he'll be able to continue his development at the alternate training site.

  • Giants' Hunter Bishop: Tests positive for coronavirus

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said Monday that Bishop has tested positive for COVID-19, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. According to Zaidi, Bishop has only shown mild symptoms of COVID-19 and his conditioning is improving, but the positive test was enough to keep him out of the mix for the Giants' initial 60-man roster pool. Since the Giants haven't yet filled out all 60 spots, Bishop could be added to the pool at a later date once he's fully cleared of the coronavirus. The 2019 first-round pick batted .229 with five home runs and eight steals in 32 games between two of the Giants' rookie-level affiliates in his first year of professional ball.
