  The Diamondbacks optioned Jameson to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. After being limited to 17 total innings between three levels in 2025 while contending with elbow problems, Jameson has been healthy for spring training but didn't pitch well enough to win a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. He'll head to Reno after turning in an 8.44 ERA, 2.44 WHIP and 5:5 K:BB in 5.1 innings over five Cactus League appearances.

• Diamondbacks' Drey Jameson: Returns to action in AFL

  Jameson (elbow) tossed a scoreless inning of relief Tuesday during an appearance in the Arizona Fall League. After missing the entire 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Jameson was back to full health for the start of spring training, but he made just three appearances for Arizona and 16 in the minors before being shut down in late June when he developed a bone fragment chip in his surgically repaired elbow. Though Jameson didn't return to action before the end of the minor-league season, he avoided another procedure on his elbow and looks like he'll be in line for a normal offseason following a stellar relief appearance Tuesday. Jameson needed only eight pitches to retire the side, generating three groundballs while sporting a fastball that topped out at 99.4 miles per hour. Jameson, who maintains a spot on Arizona's 40-man roster, is expected to compete for a bullpen role with the big club this spring.

The good news is that the injury is in an area of the elbow unrelated to the UCL, so it's not any sort of setback from last year's Tommy John surgery. Still, Jameson will be shut down for a few weeks before ramping things back up, so he won't be an option for the Diamondbacks for some time.

  Jameson earned a save with a scoreless inning during Sunday's extra-innings win over the Cubs. Jameson was promoted from Triple-A Reno on Saturday and secured a save in his season debut with the Diamondbacks. It was his first MLB appearance since July 6, 2023 after missing the entire 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Jameson likely won't see many save opportunities out of Arizona's bullpen, but with A.J. Puk (elbow) and Kevin Ginkel (shoulder) both currently on the shelf, the right-hander could work his way into a high-leverage role.

Jameson missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in September 2023. Though he had been able to throw off a mound by July of last season, Jameson is presumably doing so with more velocity and better command this spring now that he's further removed from the elbow procedure. The Diamondbacks could still ease Jameson along more slowly in spring training than their other healthy pitchers, but the 27-year-old right-hander said that there's "no question" he'll ready for Opening Day. If Jameson clinches a spot on the season-opening roster, he'll likely be used in lower-leverage situations initially, but he could quickly move up the pecking order in an Arizona bullpen that looks relatively unsettled.

For Jameson, it was his fourth consecutive scoreless, multi-inning appearance, and over that stretch he's given up seven hits and one walk over 9.1 innings with 10 strikeouts. The right-hander has a 2.61 ERA out of the bullpen since being called up from Triple-A Reno in late May. The Diamondbacks are expected to be in the market for starting pitching, but until they land one, Jameson has a path back into the rotation.   Jameson struck out one over two scoreless and hitless relief innings in Sunday's 12-3 loss to Cleveland. Jameson gave the Diamondbacks length after starter Zach Davies was removed during the fourth inning. It was the second consecutive appearance in which Jameson threw multiple innings following a short outing from a starter -- he cleaned up for Ryne Nelson on Thursday. Jameson has been used as a long reliever since being called up May 27 but has made spot starts for Arizona and five starts while at Triple-A Reno prior to his current stint with the D-backs. While Arizona appears to be cruising atop the NL West, the back end of the rotation is shaky. Outside of Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, the team's starters have a 6.18 ERA over 43 starts. If manager Torey Lovullo is contemplating change, Jameson is already in house. The right-hander has a 3.45 ERA over 15.2 innings (six relief outings) since returning to MLB.

  Jameson will throw out of the bullpen for Arizona, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The right-hander was called up Saturday when the Diamondbacks sent Brandon Pfaadt to the minors. A rotation shakeup loomed as Zach Davies was activated from the injured list to start Saturday. That transaction coupled with the Pfaadt demotion signaled an easy one-to-one-swap of Davies and Pfaadt. However, things got murky during Saturday's game when manager Torey Lovullo brought starter Tommy Henry in as a reliever, which led to speculation about Jameson entering the rotation and Henry going to the bullpen. Lovullo cleared up matters following the game, noting that the left-handed Henry will remain in the rotation and pitch Wednesday -- he faced four batters and threw just 10 pitches. Jameson is expected to serve in a multi-inning relief role.

Jameson needed 43 pitches to get through a disastrous first inning and didn't even get the opportunity to go back out.
