  • Twins' Matt Wallner: Takes seat against southpaw

Wallner is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Wallner will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Trevor Larnach and Edouard Julien while the Guardians send southpaw Matthew Boyd to the hill. Willi Castro and Manuel Margot will serve as the Twins' starters in left and right field, respectively, while Ryan Jeffers gets a day off from catching and serves as Minnesota's designated hitter.

  • Twins' Matt Wallner: Goes yard in victory

Wallner went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Tuesday's 10-5 win versus the Angels.

The 26-year-old slugger stretched the Minnesota lead to 5-0 in the third inning with a titanic 444-foot solo shot off Griffin Canning. Wallner later cracked a two-RBI double in the eighth inning to score the final Twins runs of the game. Since returning to the big leagues July 7, he has played in 50 games while hitting .290 (45-for-155) with 11 homers, 15 doubles, 29 RBI and 23 runs scored and going 3-for-3 in stolen bases.

  • Twins' Matt Wallner: Smacks 11th home run

Wallner went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rays.

Wallner took Taj Bradley deep in the third inning in what ended up being the winning run. Wallner has been a revelation for the Twins over the second half of the season and has become a mainstay in the middle of their lineup. Since being called up in early July, he's played in 45 of their last 51 games and is hitting .295 with a 1.017 OPS and 10 home runs over that span.

  • Twins' Matt Wallner: Sitting out versus left-hander

Wallner is absent from the lineup in Tuesday's game in Tampa Bay.

Wallner has been given a few starts versus lefties lately, but he'll begin this one on the bench as the Rays send southpaw Jeffrey Springs to the bump. It will be Jose Miranda in the designated-hitter slot for the Twins.

  • Twins' Matt Wallner: Homers in three-hit effort

Wallner went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Cardinals.

Wallner entered Saturday 2-for-21 across his last nine games, though both of those knocks were extra-base hits. Considering he hit safely in eight straight games from Aug. 4-13, it's a little disappointing he couldn't sustain that momentum. The 26-year-old is up to nine homers, 25 RBI, 19 runs scored, three stolen bases, 12 doubles and a .266/.395/.597 slash line across 152 plate appearances this season. He continues to play regularly versus right-handed pitchers, splitting time between left field and designated hitter.

  • Twins' Matt Wallner: Belts three-run shot in big win

Wallner went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 11-4 rout of the Padres.

Wallner broke open the contest with a three-run blast to right field in the fourth inning to give Minnesota an 8-0 lead. The long ball ended an 11-game homerless stretch for Wallner, and he had gone just 6-for-29 with 12 strikeouts in that span. He's nonetheless held onto a near-everyday role in the Twins' lineup, starting five of the team's past six games either at DH or in left field.
