Top Gunnar Henderson News

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Played through shoulder injury

Henderson revealed Thursday on WBAL Radio that he played through a shoulder impingement "pretty much for three-quarters of the year" in 2025, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The shoulder injury had not been previously reported. Henderson admitted that it was probably a factor in his downturn offensively, saying he "wasn't able to hold the plane and my body was adjusting to it, not feeling great, so that didn't really set up me in the right spot to leverage the ball like I normally do." The 24-year-old shortstop saw his wRC+ go from 154 to 120 and home run total from 37 to 17 year-over-year. Henderson contends that he's healthy now, and a big bounce-back season offensively could be on the way.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Avoids arbitration at $8.5 million

Henderson agreed to a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Orioles on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

It's a massive raise for Henderson in his first year of arbitration eligibility, which is hardly a surprise given that he's been one of the most productive shortstops in baseball since debuting in 2022. The 24-year-old's production dropped a bit in 2025, however, but he still finished with 17 homers, 30 steals, 68 RBI, 85 runs and a .787 OPS in 154 contests.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Swipes three bags in win

Henderson went 2-for-5 with a run scored and three stolen bases in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the White Sox.

It's the first career three-steal game for Henderson, who's 26-for-30 in stolen-base attempts this season. The shortstop has at least one hit in four of his last five games, going 8-for-20 (.400) in that span. Overall, Henderson's slashing .274/.348/.440 with 16 homers, 64 RBI and 83 runs scored across 609 plate appearances this year.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Three knocks in win

Henderson went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's win against the White Sox.

Henderson delivered RBI singles in the third and fifth innings for his first multi-RBI game since Aug. 18. Over his previous 24 games, he had driven in just five runs while producing a .592 OPS. Henderson is still in a power slump and his homerless drought stands at 20 games. He's slashing .272/.348/.440 with 64 RBI and 82 runs scored this season through 604 plate appearances.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Two hits, stolen base amidst slump

Henderson went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Toronto.

Henderson is still mired in quite the cold spell so far in September, batting .143 (5-for-35) with a lone RBI in his first 10 games of the month. The star shortstop has taken a step back this season following an outstanding 2024 regular season, when posted a career-best .893 OPS over 159 outings, but he still has a realistic shot at recording his second straight 20-homer, 20-steal campaign. Henderson is hitting .270 with 16 long balls, 62 RBI, 81 runs scored and 23 pilfers across 525 at-bats.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Receiving rare day off Wednesday

Henderson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

In what appears to be a routine rest for a day game after a night game, Henderson will exit the Baltimore lineup for just the third time since the beginning of July. With Henderson receiving a breather, the Orioles will turn over shortstop to Luis Vazquez in the series finale.
