Red Sox's Sterling Sharp: Inks MiLB deal with Boston
Sharp re-signed with the Red Sox on a minor-league contract Jan. 4.
After being released from the Nationals last August, Sharp caught on with the Red Sox on a minor-league deal to close out the 2022 campaign. The 27-year-old right-hander -- whose lone MLB action came with the Marlins in 2020 -- pitched exclusively at Double-A Portland during his time in the Boston organization, logging a 3.18 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB in 34 innings.

Sterling Sharp: Cut by Washington
Sharp was released by the Nationals on Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Sharp has only made four major-league appearances, all of which came in 2020 for the Marlins. The 27-year-old has spent all of this season with Triple-A Rochester, where he's struggled to a 6.50 ERA in 12 starts and five relief appearances.

Nationals' Sterling Sharp: Returned to Nationals
Sharp was returned to the Nationals on Friday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports.
He was a top pick in the 2019 Rule 5 draft by the Marlins, but they opted to cut bait by designating him for assignment earlier this week and he went unclaimed. Sharp has some long-term potential as a No. 4 or No. 5 starter, but he had only made nine starts at Double-A and zero starts at Triple-A prior this season, so it's not a surprise he struggled (10.13 ERA) in a brief run in the Marlins' bullpen. According to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post, he was added to the Nationals' 60-player pool, and the organization will likely continue to develop him as a starter.

Marlins' Sterling Sharp: Designated for assignment
Sharp was designated for assignment Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
As a Rule 5 pick, another team could claim Sharp, otherwise he will be returned to the Nationals. He logged two scoreless outings to start the season but has given up six runs on six hits and five walks over his last 2.2 innings.

Marlins' Sterling Sharp: Making strong case for bullpen spot
Sharp has a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB through seven innings this spring.
Plucked from the Nats' system in the Rule 5 draft, Sharp hasn't looked overmatched at all so far this spring. The 24-year-old would need to stay on the 26-man roster all year if Miami doesn't want to have to offer him back to Washington, but he appears ready to provide useful middle-relief innings for the Marlins rather than needing to be hidden at the back of the bullpen and used only in blowouts.
