  The Giants signed Foley (shoulder) to a one-year contract Tuesday. Foley was non-tendered by the Tigers last month after missing most of the 2025 season following arthroscopic right shoulder surgery. He's not expected to be ready to pitch with the big club until midseason, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Foley will remain under team control through 2028, so it could be a sneaky signing if he can return to pre-surgery form. The 30-year-old led the Tigers with 28 saves during his last full season in 2024, posting a 3.15 ERA and 46:20 K:BB over 60 regular-season innings.

Foley isn't in line to pitch again this season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in May, but his ability to start playing catch again could put him in position to have something resembling a normal offseason. If Foley is free of any restrictions to begin spring training, he'll get the chance to compete for a role in the Detroit bullpen in 2026. After saving 28 games for the Tigers in 2024, Foley was optioned to Triple-A Toledo prior to this season following a rough showing in spring training. He had been pitching well at Toledo before straining his shoulder and requiring the season-ending procedure.

It's the first save for Foley in over a month and his first opportunity since July 12, when he allowed a run in a loss to the Dodgers. While Foley struggled to close out July, he's been pitching better since the start of August -- he's now made seven straight appearances (6.2 innings) without allowing an earned run. While the closing job in Detroit appears fluid, Foley is still likely the best bet for saves moving forward. He's converted 16 of 19 save chances this year while posting a 3.48 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 44 innings.
