Player Outlook
Dax Kilby didn't come off the board until the 39th pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, but his pro debut was impressive enough that he'll be a first rounder in dynasty FYPDs. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Kilby has an uber-projectable frame and elite athleticism. He had a 159 wRC+, 108.9 mph max EV, 16 steals on 17 attempts and a 4.5 percent swinging-strike rate in 18 games at Single-A as an 18-year-old. Kilby hit too many balls on the ground (54.4 GB%) and didn't hit a home run, but his size and exit velocities portend plus raw power at peak. His hit tool and speed on the bases each look like potentially special fantasy traits, so he doesn't need to max out as a power hitter to be a strong use of a first-round FYPD pick. The lefty-hitting Kilby doesn't get rave reviews for his arm, which would be the one reason he might move to second base or center field down the road.

Fantasy News

  • Yankees' Dax Kilby: Turns heads in pro debut

Kilby hit .353/.457/.441 with zero home runs, 16 steals, a 16 percent walk rate and a 13.6 percent strikeout rate in 18 games for Single-A Tampa. The Yankees gave Kilby an over-slot $2.8 million bonus after selecting him with the No. 39 overall pick this year out of a high school in Georgia. The lefty-hitting shortstop has quickly upped his dynasty league value, as his exit velocity data portends at least above-average power down the road. He has a 108.9 mph batted ball and a 105.6 mph 90th percentile exit velocity, which are both excellent marks for an 18-year-old making his pro debut. Eighty of his 81 plate appearances came against pitchers who were older than him, and the average player in the Florida State League is 2.9 years older than Kilby. He has a very high fantasy ceiling, and the hype should only build during the offseason.
