  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Charged with loss Saturday

Sommers (0-3) allowed one run on two hits in two innings of relief and was charged with the loss in Saturday's 4-3 defeat to the White Sox. He walked one and struck out four.

The lefty reliever pitched decently but was charged with a tough-luck loss, taking the mound after starter Troy Melton covered just 4.1 innings. Sommers has been asked to log only 22 frames so far this season in the majors, but he's mostly been sharp despite his winless record with a 3.68 ERA and 34 strikeouts. He doesn't have a ton of fantasy appeal at the moment, however, given his lower-leverage role in Detroit's bullpen.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Back in Detroit

The Tigers recalled Sommers from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Sommers will be back with the big-league club after a brief three-day stint in Triple-A Toledo. Kenley Jansen (pelvis) was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Thursday, so Sommers will take his place on the active roster. The 25-year-old has struggled in his four appearances with Detroit, allowing six earned runs over three innings.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Jettisoned to minors

The Tigers optioned Sommers to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Sommers served as the 27th man during Sunday's doubleheader versus the Orioles but did not appear in either game. The left-hander has collected a 3.10 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB across 20.1 innings at Toledo this season.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Summoned from minors as 27th man

The Tigers appointed Summers from Triple-A Toledo to serve as their 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader versus the Orioles.

He's expected to return to Toledo following the twin bill. Sommers made four appearances out of the Tigers bullpen in 2025 but has worked exclusively at Triple-A so far the season, posting a 3.10 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB across 20.1 innings.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Bumped to minor-league camp

The Tigers optioned Sommers to minor-league camp Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Sommers managed to yield no hits in three Grapefruit League innings, but he walked four, hit two batters with a pitch and also threw a wild pitch en route to two runs allowed. The southpaw will operate out of the Triple-A Toledo bullpen to begin 2026.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Back in Toledo

The Tigers optioned Sommers to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The 25-year-old lefty joined the big-league bullpen Tuesday when Bailey Horn went on the paternity list and will now head back to the minors following the latter's return. Sommers has given up six earned runs in just three MLB innings this year, but he's put himself in a position to audition for next year's Opening Day bullpen by turning in a 3.03 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 35.2 frames in Triple-A.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Bolstering bullpen

The Tigers recalled Sommers from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Bailey Horn was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, so Sommers will fill in for him. Sommers made his MLB debut Aug. 22 in his last stint with the Tigers that concluded Sept. 2. He saw just three innings of work and gave up six earned runs in that span.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Relegated to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Sommers to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Since making his MLB debut Aug. 22, Sommers has given up six earned runs in just three innings of work. His poor performance will ultimately buy him a ticket back to the minors; meanwhile, the Tigers will bring up Bailey Horn from Toledo to round out their bullpen.

  • Tigers' Drew Sommers: Takes first career loss

Sommers (0-1) allowed three runs on two hits across an inning of relief to take the loss in Monday's game against the Mets. He struck out one.

With Detroit starter Charlie Morton only lasting 3.2 innings, Sommers came on in the middle of the contest and struggled against a potent New York lineup. The key hit against the rookie lefty was a two-RBI triple by Juan Soto, who then came around to score on a Brandon Nimmo single. Sommers has now allowed at least one run in three of his first four MLB appearances, and he's sitting with an ugly 18.00 ERA.
