Rockies' Matt Kemp: Sitting out amid slump
Kemp is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
Kemp's grasp on the Rockies' primary designated-hitter role may be loosening, as he's recorded only one hit in 19 at-bats over his last five starts to drop his season-long batting line to .228/.296/.412. Kevin Pillar will spell Kemp as the Rockies' DH in the series finale.

Rockies' Matt Kemp: Not starting Friday
Kemp is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Kemp hits the bench for the second time in three games. His .234/.303/.423 season slash line translates to a rather poor 77 wRC+, given that gets to play half his games at Coors Field. That's a rather uninspiring figure for a designated hitter. Raimel Tapia will fill that spot Friday, with David Dahl starting in left.

He started in five of the team's previous six games, going 4-for-20 with two home runs and four RBI. With Kemp getting the day off, Charlie Blackmon will receive a day out of the field and handle DH duties.

Rockies' Matt Kemp: Not starting Thursday
Kemp is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.
Kemp has seen some playing time open back up after the Rockies placed David Dahl (back) and Chris Owings (hamstring) on the injured list over the last two days, but the 35-year-old still won't be guaranteed a spot in the everyday lineup. While Kemp should at least handle a part-time role at designated hitter in the short term, Rockies manager Bud Black will also likely use that spot in the lineup to give some other everyday players days out of the field.
