  • Diamondbacks' Ricky Nolasco: Debuts at Double-A

Nolasco (undisclosed) was activated from Double-A Jackson's 7-day injured list Sunday and debuted for the affiliate in its 14-12 win over Birmingham. He covered four innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.

After signing a minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks in February, Nolasco stuck around at extended spring training for a few months due to the unspecified injury before he was finally cleared to report to the Double-A club. Though he's made 312 starts at the big-league level, Nolasco was hit hard during his last stint in the majors in 2017 with the Angels and probably won't be viewed as much more than an emergency rotation option for Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Ricky Nolasco: Moves to minor-league camp

Nolasco was assigned to minor-league camp Tuesday.

Nolasco was always a long shot to break camp with the team, and his three earned runs in 3.2 spring innings didn't help his case. The 36-year-old isn't a great bet to make a big-league impact this year, as he last pitched back in 2017 and had a 4.92 ERA in that season.

  • Diamondbacks' Ricky Nolasco: Inks MiLB deal with Arizona

Nolasco agreed to a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday that includes an invitation to big-league camp.

Nolasco last pitched in the major leagues during the 2017 season, when he started 33 games for the Angels and posted a 4.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with a 143:58 K:BB through 181 innings. He figures to serve as organizational depth for Arizona at Triple-A but could return to the big leagues should the Diamondbacks struggle through any injury problems in their starting rotation.

  • Ricky Nolasco: Released by Royals

Nolasco was released by Kansas City on Saturday.

Nolasco recently joined the organization on a minor-league contract but was released prior to Saturday's opt-out deadline. He will look to latch on with another team after logging a 4.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 33 starts with the Angels in 2017.

  • Royals' Ricky Nolasco: Heading to KC on NRI deal

Nolasco agreed to a minor-league contract with the Royals on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports.

According to Heyman, the deal is worth $1.5 million with an opt-out on March 24. Nolasco could only produce a 4.92 ERA last season with the Angels, and with plenty of other competition for the back-end rotation spots, it's tough to see him cracking the Opening Day roster. It could prove to be a nice gamble for the Royals if he pitches well this spring, however.

  • Ricky Nolasco: Hits free agency

Nolasco will become a free agent after the Angels declined to pick up his team option Thursday.

Nolasco made 33 starts for the Angels in 2017 but posted an unsatisfactory 4.92 ERA. His poor figures were largely due to his inability to keep the ball in the park, as he served up a career-high 35 home runs. The journeyman may be scooped up by another organization this offseason, but he likely won't provide any real fantasy value in 2018.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Solid showing in no-decision

Nolasco allowed one run on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Saturday.

While Nolasco only picked up two strikeouts, he proved to be effective in Saturday's contest as he allowed just a single run during his time on the mound. However, his bullpen fell apart and prevented him from earning his seventh win of the year. Over 33 starts this season, Nolasco went 6-15 while posting a subpar 4.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Takes 15th loss Monday

Nolasco (6-15) allowed four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and a walk while striking out four batters through five innings to take the loss against the White Sox on Monday.

While Nolasco has now allowed just six earned runs through 16 innings over his last three starts, he still sports a crippling 5.02 ERA and 1.45 WHIP for the campaign. Further discouraging, the 34-year-old righty is also without a win since Aug. 16. Nolasco projects to make his final start of the season against Seattle at Angel Stadium.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Keeps team in game

Nolasco took a no-decision after holding the Indians to two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts over five innings Wednesday.

Nolasco pulled his second consecutive Houdini act, limiting another dangerous lineup to just two runs after tossing a quality start against the Astros in his previous outing. It wasn't pretty -- barely half of his 92 pitches were strikes -- but the veteran did just enough to scrape by with a passable stat line. This was the first time the 34-year-old didn't give up a home run in consecutive starts since July 1; all it took was facing a pair of offenses that rank in the top three in team slugging percentage. Despite his recent success and a favorable matchup on tap against the White Sox, fantasy owners should probably steer clear of Nolasco and his 5.06 ERA.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Pitches well in loss

Nolasco (6-14) took the loss despite tossing a quality start against the Astros on Thursday. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out one over six innings.

It was Nolasco's first quality start since Aug. 1, a span during which he posted a sub-par 5.21 ERA. The Angels continue to roll the 34-year-old out there despite receiving diminishing returns due to a lack of pitching depth. Nolasco exited unscathed against a dangerous Astros lineup, but fantasy owners shouldn't necessarily double down on his next start against the streaking Indians on Wednesday.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Takes 13th loss

Nolasco (6-13) lasted just 3.2 innings after giving up four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in a losing effort against the Mariners on Friday.

This was Nolasco's first loss since July 26 despite posting a 5.53 ERA over an eight-start stretch. The veteran has given up a homer in three consecutive starts and owns a 1.92 HR/9 through 29 starts, which ranks second among all qualified pitchers. Nolasco's dangerous pitching style doesn't bode well for his chances against a hard-hitting Astros lineup next Thursday.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Fans six in no-decision

Nolasco gave up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against the Rangers on Saturday.

It wouldn't be a Nolasco start with at least one homer allowed -- Carlos Gomez touched him up, Nolasco's 33rd allowed this season (second most in baseball). Nolasco's ERA has hovered around 5.00 for most of the year and the underlying numbers don't offer much hope for improvement over the season's final month. He lines up to face the Mariners his next time out.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Mediocre outing Sunday

Nolasco surrendered four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings in Sunday's no-decision against the Astros.

This result exceeded expectations considering Nolasco came in with a 5.05 ERA and had failed to pitch six full innings in any of his previous four starts. Houston's top-ranked offense got to him early, scoring two runs on a first-inning Jose Altuve homer and tacking on two more in the fourth. Los Angeles' offense took Nolasco off the hook with five runs over the next two innings combined, but his team ultimately lost the game 7-5. His next start is scheduled for Saturday in Texas.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Falls one out short of win Tuesday

Nolasco held the Rangers to one run on three hits while walking three and striking out six over 4.2 innings Tuesday. He was left with a no-decision after he failed to complete five frames in a 10-1 win.

Nolasco was wild yet effective through four innings, but with a pitch count just north of 100 in the fifth, manager Mike Scioscia yanked his starter after he allowed three Rangers to reach base in a -- at the time -- close contest. The Angels ended up cruising to a 10-1 victory, but the 34-year-old came up one out short of his seventh win of the season. Nolasco reportedly had no lingering effects of the cramps that cut his previous start short, so he should be fine for his next scheduled outing against a dangerous Astros lineup.

  • Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Should be fine for next start

Nolasco (cramps) said he is fine Friday after leaving his last start with cramps in both calves, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

This isn't surprising news considering the mild nature of his injury, and Nolasco's confirmation of health puts him back on track to start Tuesday against the Rangers. The 34-year-old has posted a 5.16 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 139.2 innings this season, so he shouldn't draw too much interest from fantasy owners in a tough matchup against a potent Rangers lineup.
